B league leaders Banchory had home advantage against A league Colony Park in this Under 17 Semi Final. Banchory had already disposed off A League opponents Lewis United in the previous round whilst Colony Park had knocked out Scottish Cup holders Albion BC.

Colony had the stiff breeze at their backs as the game kicked off at a bitterly cold Milton Park. Banchory keeper Masson was alert to some early pressure as Colony pushed for the opener. With 5 minutes on the clock Colony were awarded a free kick 20 yards from goal. Duguid kept his shot low and Masson could only parry the ball and Dawson was alert to knock home the rebound to give the visitors an early lead.

The visitors almost made it two when Duguid broke free down the right and fired in a great ball across the face off the goal, Wood just failed to make contact sliding in at the back post. Milne then went close for Banchory heading a corner kick delivery just wide. Banchory were then awarded a free kick 20 yards out Milne struck it high into the breeze, to all watching it seemed to be going over the cross bar but dipped in the breeze and dropped over Garden in the Colony goal.

Banchory got a lift and with their next attack Flaherty floated a ball forward to Marnoch who got behind the defence, Garden got a hand to the ball but there was enough power in the shot to carry over the line and Banchory were 2-1 up. Only a close offside call prevented Marnoch the opportunity to make it 3- 1. Colony then equalised on the 38th minute when Kennedy and Burr combined down the right and Burr cut the ball back for Watson to pick his spot. It was to be 3 -2 to Colony at the break Lawrence guiding home a header from a Kennedy cross.

Half Time: Banchory Boys 2-3 Colony Park

Banchory had an early chance at the start of the second half but the cross was too strong. Colony then scored twice as first Watson latched on to a loose ball at the edge of the area and then Wood found space and the ball was played to Lawrence who hit a rocket into the top corner. The whirlwind start to the 2nd half had rocked Banchory and the game settled down. Banchory were seeing plenty off the ball but could not breach a well drilled Colony team.

On the 73rd minute Milne won a header from a corner the loose ball falling to Brimmer who volleyed the ball home. Watson almost got his hat-rick as a shot from him hit the post but he was not to be denied with minutes left as he fired in from the edge of the area once more to seal Colony’s place in the final.

A terrific game played in great spirit, Colony just proving to be too strong for their B League opponents. Banchory still have a lot to play for as they look towards securing the league title in the coming weeks. Whilst Colony have the cup final and the semi final of the Noskab Trophy to come.
