This was an exciting cup tie between two teams totally committed to getting through to the final. It had everything; goals, penalties, misses and a fair share of hard challenges.

The match sparked into life midway through the first half when Fraserburgh were awarded a penalty. Martin Anderson stepped up to coolly slot it away and put the home team in front. Indeed Fraserburgh were looking comfortable at this point but a defensive mistake just before half-time allowed Michael Gunn, Cove's number ten to equalise.

Half time: Fraserburgh 1-1 Cove Rangers

After the break Fraserburgh came storming out of the blocks and retook the lead after about five minutes with Bruce Patterson netting from inside the box. But like the evenly matched sides that they were, Cove equalised shortly after with the goal of the game. A tremendous free kick from about twenty five yards was curled past the Fraserburgh wall and past the despairing keeper by Michael Gunn for his second of the match.

From this point Cove seemed to move up a gear and Ross Cochrane capped a fine match with two close range goals to put the visitors seemingly out of sight.

Fraserburgh out for the count? Not likely. The home team pushed forward in numbers to try and rescue the tie and a third goal by substitute Neil McQuaig gave them a glimmer of hope.

More pressure from Fraserburgh saw a couple of very good chances go a begging before the referee pointed to the spot for a second penalty to Fraserburgh in the very last minutes. Martin Anderson again stepped forward to take the kick but this time Cove keeper, Stuart Milne was the hero when he dived to his left and saved the spot kick.

The final whistle blew soon after this and Cove go forward to the final. A very disappointing for the Fraserburgh team who more than contributed to a great advert for youth football.

Full time: Fraserburgh 3-4 Cove Rangers
