The cup competitions got underway once again in the ADJFA and in the first round of the Belmont Trophy a great cup tie was to be served up between Colony Park who just missed out on promotion via a play off last season against a Deveronvale side who were promoted and have made a decent start to the season.

Colony played Banchory Lions in the Scottish Cup a few weeks ago who play in the A League and gave them a run for their money there, they done the same today and ensured a place in the next round of the tournament with a 4-3 win.

The Inverurie side started well and had the first chance of the game after a brilliant ball was sent in by Ben Duncan which was met by Ben Green whose header was heading into the bottom left hand corner but a great diving save from Michael Low kept the score at 0-0.

Colony attacked the Vale goal once again and created another great attacking move with a brilliant ball by Ben Green being met by Ben Duncan who flashed a volley towards goal but it just went over.

The hosts then took the lead on 24 minutes with a bit of luck after Ben Green sent a great through ball into Ben Duncan who then pounded his way into the box before his effort came off John Clark and into the net.

Park then got themselves a 2nd after a great cross from the right hand flank was sent in by Dale Rennie which was met by Ben Duncan who flashed it past Michael Low in the Vale goal.

Vale then managed to get a vital goal before half time after Sam Mellor knocked a through ball into winger Calvin Cormack who calmly placed it past Brendan Allan putting it into the bottom left hand corner.

Half Time: Colony Park 2-1 Deveronvale

The Banffers got an equaliser as we started the 2nd half after Jordan Russell sent a brilliant ball into Callum Carmichael who then powered his way into the box before seeing his shot saved by Allan but it was too powerful for the goalkeeper and it managed to creep into the top right hand corner.

Colony re-took the lead creating some good play once again with a good delivery being sent in by Greg Taylor which was met by Tommy Linton who calmly side-footed it into the bottom left hand corner.

Linton then got his 2nd of the game after he recieved a great pass from Ryan Harper which cut open the Vale defence and calmly tucked it past Low for what was a wonderfully worked goal.

Vale had two chances to try and get themselves back into the game, first a Bradley Neish corner was met by Callum Carmichael whose effort went straight at Brendan Allan, Neish and Carmichael then linked up again but Allan was at full stretch again to deny them a route into the game.

Callum Carmichael was to get a brace though after he recieved a great through ball from Jake McKay and then placed it into the top right hand corner, Vale then kept on pressing but Colony managed to hold on for a giantkilling.

Full Time: Colony Park 4-3 Deveronvale
