After a quiet opening period with little goalmouth action, it was Culter that took the lead after 11 minutes when PIRIE chased down Lovick’s through-ball ahead of the advancing Colts keeper, stroking the ball into the unguarded net. The home team began to put the Colony defence under more sustained pressure and doubled their advantage in the 20th minute when Pirie’s cross from the right was lofted over the keeper by midfielder PATERSON. Three minutes later, MITCHELL scored a fine solo goal, picking the ball up 35 yards from goal and powering through the Colony defence before side-footing past the helpless goalkeeper. LOVICK got his name on the scoresheet soon after, heading Pirie’s cross back across goal and into the net. Two minutes later, LOVICK converted with another header, rising above his marker and placing the ball into the far corner. With half an hour gone, Colony had an opportunity to pull a goal back but were unable to convert. The visitors were struggling to cope with United’s movement and went further behind when PIRIE was first to react after the keeper did well to block his first effort. As half-time approached, PIRIE completed his hat-trick with a crisp finish from the edge of the six yard box. Half Time: Culter United 7 – 0 Colony Colts Colony did get on the scoresheet when a shot hit the base of the post and the rebound was drilled into the net. United countered immediately and a Pirie header was superbly saved at point-blank range by the Colts keeper. Culter reached double figures with 70 minutes elapsed when Pirie played a low cross into the box for LOVICK to complete his hat trick. Mitchell had a chance from a 25 yard free kick but his shot was drilled over the bar. Culter didn’t have long to wait as PIRIE ran through on goal a minute later to smash the ball home. Moments later, Geider played PIRIE wide and he had time to place the ball over the goalkeeper to complete a magnificent double hat-trick of goals. Within a minute of the restart GEIDER had his name on the score sheet when Lovick laid the ball back from the edge of the box and he smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the net. GEIDER completed the scoring just before full time with an unstoppable curling shot from outside the box. |
