After last year's impressive performances in the Scottish FA Youth Cup this year saw Fort William U-20's drawn away to Huntly U-20's in the 2nd Round of this season's competition, a difficult tie which saw Fort William return with a deserved 2-1 win from Christie Park.

A keenly contested first half saw Fort dominate the majority of the game with the pace of strikers Logan Barker and Iain MacLellan causing the Huntly defence problems from the very start. Some strong defending and excellent saves from the impressive 16 year old Huntly keeper kept the Fort at bay.

Fort finally broke the deadlock on the 40th minute as a curling free kick from Lewis Corbett produced a fine save from the keeper down at his bottom corner, however Logan Barker was on hand to fire the ball home and a deserved 1-0 lead at half time.

With only a minute gone in the second half a quickly taken free kick from Andy McLean put Martin Munro clean through on goal and a very calm finish from the winger put the Fort into a 2-0 lead at the start of the second half.

On the hour mark Huntly were becoming frustrated and as Iain MacLellan turned the strong centre back to race in on goal he was brought down from behind, which then produced a red card and put Huntly down to 10 men.

Strangely, this produced Huntly's best spell in the game and as they forced the game they were awarded a penalty as Lewis Campbell brought down the Huntly attacker in the box and a well taken penalty made the score 2-1 with 20 minutes to go.

As Huntly left men high up the park in chase of the equaliser Fort continually broke through on goal but some excellent saves from the man of the match in the Huntly goal and some wayward finishing kept the score at 2-1 which made for a nervous finish for the Fort men.

However, Fort settled down and retained possession well as the game came to a close and a well deserved 2-1 victory which put's them in the draw for the 3rd Round which takes place next month on 21st October.

Overall an excellent hard working performance from all involved with defender Farquhar Macrae and Lewis Corbett in midfield having fine games. With several of the players playing for the senior team the day before it makes the result all the more notable.
