Apex went into this game knowing it would be one of their tougher games of the season and it all started well for the boys in blue. The only had to wait until the 7th minute of the game before finding the back of the net. Jonny Cook accelerated well to create space for himself before passing the ball to Gavin Sinclair who took the honours after finishing off what was a good move.

Apex almost doubled their lead just three minutes later after Darren Taylor’s cut back to Jonny Cook left him with space to take a shot but it was straight at Scott Sinclair. Eleven minutes had passed and Apex had now doubled their lead. Andy Smith’s shot took a deflection out of play for a corner kick. Smith swung the ball into the box and found the run of Callum Tremaine at the near post who headed the ball past Sinclair at his near post.

The 15th minute of the game saw Apex keep up their hard work from the opening stages of the game and they were merited with a third goal. Another good move from Apex resulted in Gavin Sinclair slipping the ball through to Jonny Cook who slotted the ball past Scott Sinclair at his near post.

Apex continued to create chances and in the 16th minute of the game Gavin Sinclair played the ball into the box for Darren Taylor who had strayed just offside. Apex were 4-0 up after just 20 minutes and it was another goal for Jonny Cook to add to his collection for the season as Gavin Sinclair swung in a corner that found the run of Cook who headed the ball into Scott Sinclair’s bottom corner.

Just eight minutes later and Apex had scored a fifth goal of the day coming after excellent football again and Gavin Sinclair and Jonny Cook linking up well before Sinclair played the ball through to Cook who just passed the ball into the back of the net to complete an incredible 13 minute hat-trick.

Huntly’s chances were few and far between in the first half so they knew they had to make the most of them when they came. Philip Morrison won the ball off Hutcheon before passing to Michael Masson who’s shot was inches wide of Matty Diack’s post. Huntly had another chance just four minutes later again falling to Michael Masson and again his shot was just wide of the target.

The second half started completely different from the first with Huntly having the most of the early pressure and Apex had just fallen asleep. In the 49th minute of the game Kieran Grant played the ball through to Philip Morrison who proceeded with the ball 1 on 1 with Diack before finishing well into Diack’s bottom right corner.

Just a minute later and Huntly had narrowed the scoreline further with Kieran Dey swinging in a corner which Apex could only half clear as far as Simon Moir who was left unmarked to head the ball into the back of the net.

In the 54th minute of the game Huntly had scored a third goal and the comeback was now certainly back on as Murray Adam was wanting too much time on the ball and was later tackled on the halfway line and Scott Moir played the ball through to Michal Masson who had made amends for his missed chances in the first half by finishing this chance into Diack’s bottom right corner.

In the 67th minute of the game Huntly had narrowed the gap to just one goal and the comeback was very nearly complete. The ball was played over the top by captain Peter Souter to Philip Morrison who was first to the ball then lobbed Diack from the edge of the box.

Two minutes later and Apex’s spell of narcolepsy seemed to be over as they had the ball in the back of the Huntly net for the first time in the second half. It was a superb cross into the box from Darren Taylor and Jonny Cook was left with simplest of tasks to stab the ball home from three yards out.

Just a minute after the restart and Apex were on the attack again with Daniel Taylor crossing the ball into the box but Gavin Sinclair’s header was saved by Scott Sinclair. In the 82nd minute of the game Sinclair and Cook linked up well again but Cook’s shot was caught by the keeper.
