Apex FC vs Glentanar BC - Under 19sThese two teams met today in the Murray Cup Final that took place at Iain Mair Park. Throughout the game there were plenty of chances created for both teams. In the 3rd minute of the game it was Apex who created the real first half chance with Cook working hard to feed the ball through to Sinclair but his effort went wide of Robertson’s post. In the tenth minute Tremaine went on a run down the right hand side of the pitch but no one in an Apex shirt could get on the end of his venomous ball across the face of the Glentanar goal.

In the twentieth minute of the game Glentanar created their first real chance of the game after winning a corner McBeath swung the ball into the air but Jackson could only see his glancing header go over the bar. A minute after this missed opportunity and it was Apex who were in the lead. Jackson had a defensive error for Glentanar and Sinclair was quick to pounce and he proceeded with the ball before squaring it to Jonny Cook who controlled the ball with his right foot then coolly slotted the ball past Jamie Robertson in the Glentanar goal.

Glentanar didn’t let their heads drop and were quickly on attack once more as the ball was played over the top for Hunter to run onto. He played the ball into the box but Jolly could only see his effort go wide. 5 minutes later the game was back in the balance and again it was Hunter who was working hard to create space for himself and he played the ball across the goal but Daniel Bruce’s effort was blocked by Booth, but the ball only broke to Chris Polson at the edge of the box who slammed his effort home off the underside of the crossbar.

In the 38th minute of the game a defensive error from Booth allowed Daniel Bruce to get the ball but with only Scott Fuerst to beat he put the ball over the bar.

Apex FC vs Glentanar BC - Under 19sThe second half started more or less the same as the first with both sides fighting to get the win. With Apex substitute Darren Taylor making an immediate impact on the game Jonny Cook could only see his header from Taylor’s cross go inches past the post.

The 56th minute of the game saw Glentanar pressing hard to find a goal that would put them in front. Bruce crossed the ball into the box but Hutcheon rose the highest to clear. The 66th minute of the game saw Apex come close to taking the lead again. Sinclair was fouled about 25 yards out from the goal. Robertson took the resultant free-kick and Robertson was on his toes to tip the ball round the post for a corner. Smith took the corner and the ball broke perfectly into the path of Booth who blasted the ball home from two yards out to regain Apex’s lead.

Three minutes after the goal and Apex were looking for a third goal and Cook played the ball into the path of Tremaine who was in the box but McBeath got back in time to make a great last ditch tackle. In the 73rd minute of the game Jolly put in another great cross for Glentanar but Dryburgh was there to clear the ball out of play for a corner. The 75th minute of the game saw McBeath have an effort from the edge of the box but Fuerst was on hand to deny Glentanar a second equaliser.

As the game drew closer to the final whistle it looked like Glentanar had found the back of the net but it took a word class save from Fuerst to deny it. Again it was Bradly Jolly who swung the ball in and Philip Dyce was unmarked and his towering header that looked certain to be going into the corner was somehow kept out magnificently by Fuerst in the Apex goal. Glentanar were piling on the pressure by creating glorious opportunities but just couldn’t provide the final touch.

In the 85th minute of the game McBeath put in a cross but Jackson’s free header went wide of the post. Apex almost sealed victory in the 86th minute of the game when Hutcheon crossed the ball into the box but Sinclair’s header went wide. The next piece of drama came only two minutes later when a collision between Fuerst and Hutcheon in the Apex defence left Fuerst down on the ground and left the ball going straight into the path of substitute Craig Forbes but he unbelievably put the ball wide when it looked easier to score. Apex had the final chance of the game in the second minute of injury time as Cook laid the ball back to Connor Robertson but his effort went over the crossbar.
