Stonehaven YFC Under 19s vs Apex FC Under 19s
ADJFA 'A' League

Apex travelled to Stonehaven to play their first ‘A’ league match of the season. It was a warm day in Stonehaven with the weather being great for the style of football that the Apex side plays.

In the opening moments of the game Fuersty’s big kick found Gav who won the header that fed in Tremaine but his effort went over the bar. It was a slow start by Apex. They were not dominating the game as much as they would have liked.

In the 24th minute of the game Apex upped their game a little and managed to find the back of the Stonehaven net when Connor delivered a corner to the near post and Gav was there to power the header past the keeper. Stonehaven 0-1 Apex.

On the half hour mark Stonehaven won a corner but their striker could only see his header saved excellently by Fuersty in the Apex goal. In the 41st minute of the game Apex should have went 2-0 up when the ball was played across the front of the Stonehaven goal but Tremaine’s effort went harmlessly over the bar.

The 44th minute of the game saw Stonehaven equalize when they played the ball over the top of the Apex defence and their number 9 finished the ball past Fuersty. Stonehaven 1-1 Apex.

The teams went into the break with the scores level at 1-1.

In the 50th minute of the game Apex made their first substitute of the game when Daniel went on for Ross. In the 55th minute of the game Apex made their second change of the day when Jonny went on in place of Boothy. Euan went into centre back alongside Melv, Hutchie moved across to left back, Tremaine dropped back to right back, Daniel went to left mid and Jonny went up front.

Moments after Jonny’s introduction to the game he played in Gav who could only see his goal bound effort saved well by the keeper. In the 59th minute of the game Daniel had an effort saved onto the crossbar by the keeper and out of play for a corner. In the 61st minute of the game Gav had yet another opportunity to score but the in form keeper saved it onto the post.

The 64th minute of the game saw Apex take the lead again after Andy played a great through ball to Jonny who finished superbly and got his goal tally
off to a start for the season. Stonehaven 1-2 Apex.

In the 69th minute of the game Jonny got his second goal of the day after Gav played a great pass to him and Jonny slid the ball past the keeper. Stonehaven 1-3 Apex.

2 minutes later the ball fell in the path of Andy but his fierce strike rattled against off the crossbar. But it wasn’t long after until Apex found the net again as Jonny scored a pen after the keeper decided to start a wrestling match with Jonny inside the box.

Jonny placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to make it Stonehaven 1-4 Apex.

The 75th minute of the game saw Apex extend their lead. Again the scorer being Jonny Cook as the ball was cut back to him and from about 12 yards out he powered the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net. Stonehaven 1-5 Apex.

In the 81st minute of the game Daniel’s shot was blocked out of play for a corner. Andy crossed the ball and Melv’s header went inches wide. The 85th minute of the game saw Apex get their 6th and Jonny get his 5th of the game. He played a great 1-2 with Connor and he took one touch to set himself and the next he fired the ball past the Stonehaven into the back of the net. Stonehaven 1-6 Apex.

In the end it was a good day for Apex. A slow start on the day but the second half showed what they are capable of doing. A really well deserved 3 points on the day. The young men will be looking to get another 3 points next week when they play Cove at Skene.
