PBC Buchanhaven Hearts and Longside met in an Under 19s B League play-off to determine who would be champions for season 2018-19, it was Longside coming out on top winning 3-0 with a bit of quality in front of goal being the difference. Peterhead to Longside is only 6.2 miles so there will have been mutual knowings between both sets of players before and after the game.
The opening stages of the game saw nothing clear cut from either team with the weather hosting a stage of rain, hail stones, sun & wind which did make football hard to play at times within the game, Buchanhaven Hearts had a half chance on 15 minutes but the first shot on goal after 28 minutes resulted in the opening goal of the game. Longside pressed forward with Ross McCafferty having a shot parried by Callum Hall before Michael Taylor tucked home the rebound.
Taylor was looking promising for Longside whenever he got himself on the ball and was full of positivity, he had a good effort from just inside the area over the bar as Longside searched to double their lead before the interval.
Buchanhaven had a chance of their own, a nice ball was sent in from the left side by Ayden McGill which found Shaun Collin which just went over the bar, chances came from both teams however it was Longside who were in front of half time, it was more of a battle than a game of football which was unsurprising considering the importance of the match.

The second half began and Longside couldn't have dreamed of a better start to the half as they doubled their lead with the period just a couple of minutes old, a pass back from Jordan Durie to Callum Hall was missed by the latter and the ball went into the net, Hall tried to retrieve the ball however it had already crossed the line before he could clear.
Longside deserved the victory however argubaly after the 2nd goal, Buchanhaven played their best football of the game with a series of chances towards the Longside goal in an attempt to rescue the game, Durie tried to make amends for that own goal however a good strike by the defender hit the bar, Calum Fraser also tried his luck from close range which gone wide.
Shaun Collin had a decent game for PBC, didn't threaten much in front of goal however the desire and fight to try and get forward and help his team mates both forward and back was there to see, a good ball by Collin found Alex Kelly however a good save by Arran Gerrard denied Kelly.
With the clock counting down and no response from Buchanhaven yet, Longside cast home another goal to conclude this game as a contest, a throw-in was put into a good position before the ball came into Kieran Scott who slid the ball home with a fantastic composed finish past Hall.
Longside had the youngest squad in the league with a number of players still eligible for Under 17s alongside players in the 2000/2001 age bracket, PBC Buchanhaven have gained the derby bragging rights in the league games this season however the derby play-off victory for Longside was a performance worthy of crowning league champions with a real desire, grit and also ability to score in front of goal.
