A battling performance from Newmachar United was enough for the Aberdeenshire side to take home the Under 16s Spree B League title for season 2018-19 winning 2-0, goals from John Milne and Callum Donald completed the trick. It has been a very competitive B League this year with Cove, Formartine, Donside and FDS also playing their part in making sure it was an intense title race. Newmachar and Cove were the most consistent throughout the season and deserve their place in the A league next term.

Donside only had 11 men on the park with two trialists alongside that, it was always going to be a tough ask to get anything out of the game however the Alford side were very positive when going forward. Newmachar had the first chance of the match through Donald however it went wide before the visitors broke forward with Finlay Mitchell having the ball in the net however he was deemed offside.

Newmachar's creativity was looking sharp with John Milne causing havoc up front alongside his fellow forwards, a good ball by Nickolas Price found Milne however the crossbar was the burden from Newmachar taking the lead inside 15 minutes.

Donside broke forward again on 18 minutes with a fantastic ball by Logan Barclay finding Morgan Ritchie however the latter failed to connect with the ball and it went out for a United goal kick.

Newmachar were to play the better football and chances as the half drew to a close, Daniel Owen had a good chance for the hosts tipped over the crossbar by Ethan Munro before United took the lead on 38 minutes, a throw-in found the winger who sent a lovely delivery into the box with the ball coming to the feet of Milne  who fired home from close range.

Going a goal behind just before half time was tough to take from a Donside perspective however they showed a real purpose and desire going forward at the beginning of the half with Jamie Foreman having a volley denied by Aidan Wood.

The second half was more of a battle with Newmachar having a shout for a penalty on 52 minutes disputed by the referee, it looked like a penalty from a crowd perspective and the referee was prepared to blow his whistle however didn't take any action.

A long ball from the defence found John Milne who drove into the box but a good save by Ethan Munro denied the forward from adding to the tally. Kurtis Williams also had a chance which went over the bar as the hosts went in search of an important second goal.

That important goal which sealed the fate at the top of the league came in the dying stages of the game after an unfortunate slip by Munro fed in Callum Donald who tapped the ball into an empty net and it wasn't long before the celebrations started inside Charlie Gordon Park.

Congratulations to all at Newmachar United on a deserved success, it has been a fantastic development path for the side, after being in the C League at Under 14s before promotion, they just missed out on promotion last season and also failed via the play-off route however a strong season by the Aberdeenshire side means they are top of the pile and A league football is coming to Charlie Gordon Park which has been a long time coming and long overdue.
