On a bitter spring morning at Lawsondale astroturf, Fraserburgh Link Up came to play against Westdyke CC. With Fraserburgh top of the league and Westdyke just behind them in third place, it was sure to be a good game. Fraserburgh came out on top winning 4-0 with four goals by Ross Taylor the difference.

The action kicked off quickly - in the second minute, a shot from Westdyke captain Jay Neil from 25 yards was just wide of the Fraserburgh right post.

In the sixth minute, a burst of pace from Fraserburgh’s Mark Shepherd took him into the Westdyce box after a one, two with their Dylan Price. Unfortunately Shepherd shot straight at Westdyke keeper, Finlay Wilson after a great move.

Only two minutes later, a pass from Fraserburgh’s Andrew Paine to Ross Taylor sees his shot go way over the bar.

In the 14th minute a shot from 25 yards from Westdykes Andrew Walker flew straight into the keepers grasp. Then only two minutes later, a shot from Westdykes Tyler Reid from nearly 30 yards goes just past the post.

Closing in on half time a good save was forced from Wilson as a pass from Fraserburgh’s Dylan Price to Ewan Gordon sees his shot nearly go in but is brilliantly tipped over the bar and away for a corner by the Westdyke number one.

Another attack from Fraserburgh as Shepherd shoots from 10 yards and Wilson parries it out to Price who forces the keeper to make a good save out for another corner.

The tally of corners finally pays off for Fraserburgh as the corner was played in by Price onto the head of the Fraserburgh man of the match Ross Taylor who glances the ball away from Wilson making it 1-0 to Fraserburgh.

On the stroke of half time a mistake from the Westdyke defence saw the ball get through to Taylor who stroked it into the bottom left corner, off the post, to make it 2-0 going into the break.

In the 11th minute of the second half, a ball from Paine through to Taylor sees him chip the keeper from 10 yards and make if 4-0 as he grabs his 4th.

Nine minutes later a foul from Fraserburgh’s Shepherd on Westdykes Ethan Brown sees a ball floated into the box but nothing came of it. Then, in the 61st minute a cross from Shepherd over to Price sees his shot rattle off of the post and give Westdyke some hope going into the last 10 minutes.

As the game was drawing to a close in the final minute of the game Fraserburgh’s Paine tries to chip the Westdyke goalkeeper from 20 yards but his shot was just over the crossbar.

So the game finished 4-0 to the league leaders Fraserburgh. Overall both teams played well but the class of Fraserburgh clearly showed as they came away victors.
