Deveronvale Reds Under 14s got off to a great start in the Under 14s Spree C League Section 2 with a 5-1 win over Culter Deeside. Both teams finished mid-table last season with Vale having the upper hand in terms of position. Vale were very good going forward and were worthy of the three points but take nothing away from Culter Deeside who played well despite the score line and can take positive signs regardless of the result.

Keryn Stronach and Caitlin Carnegie both started for the Banffshire outfit fresh from winning the league cup at Under 15s level with Deveronvale after a 4-0 win over Buchan. Both players kept the momentum going with good performances.

Vale almost opened the scoring with the game just four minutes old, a free kick from Marc Evans had Connor Gardiner in the Culter Deeside goal beaten however the post came to his rescue and Deeside cleared the ball to safety.

A Culter Deeside deflection allowed Shayne Gordon through on goal however his effort had gone wide of the left hand post. Vale had the better opportunities in the opening exchanges of the game with some resolute defending by the visitors keeping the game level.

Deveronvale took the lead on 27 minutes, Marc Evans got past his opponent with only the goalkeeper to beat and Evans found the roof of the net from close range to set the tempo for the Banff side.

Shayne Gordon then got his first goal of the game for Vale before half time stealing the ball before giving Gardiner no chance with a shot which found the corner before Gordon got his second after rounding Gardiner and tapping the ball home.

The 3-0 scoreline at half time was a little bit harsh on Culter Deeside however Reds played some fantastic football towards the tail end of the first half.

Culter Deeside pulled a goal back on 53 minutes after a shot from Uyi Umweni was denied by Leon Simpson and Thomas Manley was there to pick up the rubbish and guide the ball into an open net to give Deeside a lifeline.

However, it was to be Vales day and Gordon got his hat-trick on 55 minutes when a good piece of movement from the hosts found Gordon and the talented forward found the bottom right hand corner smashing the ball off the post before finding it's way across the line.

Dylan Crookes rounded off the scoring for the hosts after a short goal kick from Connor Gardiner found it's way to Crookes who went forward with the ball before firing a good effort which gave Gardiner no chance in the Deeside goal.

Congratulations to Deveronvale on victory and commiserations to Culter Deeside, despite the four goal difference, both sides served up a good game of football and overcast conditions. All the best to both sides for the rest of the season.
