A hat-trick from Banff Academy midfielder Jodie Strachan was enough for the North Aberdeenshire school to run out on top against Inverurie Academy with both sides serving up a great game of football in what was a beautiful day for football. Alongside winning the Aberdeenshire Secondary Schools FA League Cup, Banff also won the league as a result of their win.

Inverurie took the lead after a minute on the clock, a long range effort from Natasha McKenzie evaded Banff goalkeeper Rosie Alexander and went into the net to give the Garioch side the perfect start to the cup final.

Banff responded immediately with a raft of attacks on the Inverurie goal, a Katie Alexander long range effort was denied by a good save from Shannon Ferries before Banff hut the post once again, the goal was definitely coming.

Jodie Strachan started getting lively for Banff asking questions of the Inverurie defence, Strachan had a free kick was was tipped round the post by Ferries. From the resulting corner kick, the equaliser came after a great ball by Alexander was whipped into the danger zone to Strachan who was there to guide the ball home.

Banff took the lead on 20 minutes, Katie Alexander linked up with Hannah Wilson before finding Strachan, who found the net from a tight angle to put Banff into the lead.

Alexander and Strachan were both playing in midfield roles and both were proving very influential. Another corner came in from the former which was met by Strachan who lashed a volley towards goal which was denied by a stunning save by Ferries.

Before the interval, Strachan capped off a good first half performance with a 27 minute hat-trick. The midfielder took the ball and then ran forward before unleashing a fine effort into the bottom left hand corner to give Banff a two goal advantage heading into half time.

The second half witnessed not as many clear cut openings as the first half did, with both sides bringing on some fresh legs. Nadia Sopel tried to extend the lead for Banff however her shot went straight to Shannon Ferries.

Inverurie reduced the deficit on 52 minutes when a shot from Natasha McKenzie found it's way into the bottom left hand corner to create an interesting last half hour of the game with a lot of football still to be played.

Both sides continued to have shots however it was a tame ending to the game and soon Banff would celebrate winning the domestic double with this contest also being an Aberdeenshire Secondary Schools FA League decider. Congratulations to Banff Academy and commiserations to Inverurie Academy.
