A fantastic second half performance from Meldrum Academy, after being 1-0 down, was enough for them to bring the Aberdeenshire Secondary Schools Under 18s trophy back to their school. It was a good battling performance with the game looking to be heading in Kemnays direction until the turnaround.
It was a windy day and Kemnay had the benefit of that wind in the first half as they started the brighter team with Murray Emslie having the ball in the back of the net for Kemnay, however he was just offside when the through ball was played.
Kemnay took the lead after five minutes, a curled effort from Rory Gauld found it's way into the bottom left hand corner past Elliott Ainslie in what was a good finish from the forward. Kemnay played some excellent football in the opening exchanges of the game.
The game turned stale after that point and Meldrum started to get into the game with Calum MacDonald having a chance on goal which went straight to Craig Robb in the Kemnay goal.
Scott Webster was playing well in the left back position for Kemnay, always encouraging his team mates on and showing a desire to win the game for his school. He had a free kick just before the interval which crashed off the crossbar and out for a Meldrum goal kick.
Nothing else could separate the teams heading into the interval with Kemnay deserving of their lead at half time.
