Culter Thistle won the Under 16s C League with a game to spare, Culter scored 105 goals and conceded only 13 goals in 17 games which included only drawing once and only being defeated once all season.
The C League champions were banging in goals for fun at the start of the season however the rest of the teams in the league improved as the season had progressed meaning Culter Thistle were still winning games however the difference in scorelines weren't as high.
Culter coach Kenny McPherson said, “We used to be in the A league as Culter Colts however we lost players to other clubs and we couldn’t get players in who were a similar standard so we had to end up folding the team and we started up Culter Thistle, we took players who were in the Culter Colts team and also took in 3 players at Banchory who weren’t getting a lot of game time.
“The boys have been getting game time with us and they are starting to reap the rewards now, they have definitely improved and their confidence has improved as well, you can only play what’s in front of you, it’s unfortunate that the league only had 7 teams this season.
“We are really happy with how the season is going and Deveronvale pushed us all the way and they drew a few games at the start of the season however after that they have been on a steady run, we have really enjoyed it this season.
“Turriff United is a team who have improved from the start of the season, we played Turriff early on in the season and we won comfortably but recently we beat them 3-0 at home and 4-1 away from home, Turriff do a lot of travelling every 2nd week and it’s good to see them improving and it’s chalk and cheese from the start of the season.”
“We have improved throughout the season just with boys getting to know each other, it took them a while to gel, heading into next season the boys will know each other even more, we have created plenty of chances this season and scored 105 goals conceding only 13, we know next season we aren’t going to create the same chances and the defence will have more of a challenge and make sure they are on top week in week out.
“A lot of the teams in the B league we know from last season having played the likes of Cove, Newmachar and Kemnay & Cove could get promoted depending on results in their last few games, I think we will compete better than we did last season, I would be hopeful that we are going into the B league not to make the numbers but to definitely compete and to finish near the top of the league.”
