A very good performance from Cults Academy Under 13s ensured they picked up the Green Final Trophy with a comfortable 7-0 win at home to Harlaw Academy at Dyce Academy. It was a cold spectacle for many and it was a cracking game of football to watch from a neutral perspective.

Both sides had their chances in the opening exchanges of the game with Cults seeing a solo effort saved by Archie Stephen before a Harlaw free kick by Mark Scott went over the bar which made for an exciting start to the contest.

Cults opened the scoring midway through the first half with Damon Collins finishing off a fine move for his team before the Banks O'Dee Albion forward completed a good finish. It was a good through ball from Samuel Maitland who played in Collins.

A great ball into the box four minutes later led to Cults doubling their advantage when the ball found Jesse Marinus Goense free in space and the midfielder knocked the ball home past Archie Stephen from close range.

Harlaw had a chance on 25 minutes to reduce the deficit and it was one of the best chances of the game from their perspective after a ball from Mark Scott found Ebube Anyaegbynam with the goal right in front of the striker, however unfortunately for the tall forward he knocked his shot wide. The goal would likely have changed the complexion of the game.

Collins picked up his second goal before the half time whistle blew when another good delivery came in from out wide which was met by the forward and he slotted past Stephen from a wide angle with the Harlaw back line forcing Collins wide before he could pull his shot away.

Cults came out of the traps at the start of the 2nd half and just two minutes after the turnaround it was 4-0 with Conall Gove getting in on the act and firing a sweet shot home past a packed Harlaw defence. Harlaw had been playing well however Cults were very good going forward.

Gove then went from goalscorer to provider after playing in Conrad Slessor who found the bottom left hand corner with a fine effort to make his mark on the game.

Cults were looking for more goals and a long range effort from Harris Clubb was met by Archie Stephen and Cults soon went 6-0 up thanks to a composed finish from Conrad Slessor to give him a brace to enjoy.

Conall Gove completed the scoring on what was a chilly morning after sliding the ball into the net beyond Archie Stephen to complete a good day at the office for Cults, who picked up their second trophy in three days for the school, after the Under 16s beat Oldmachar Academy 4-0 on Thursday night.

Congratulations to Cults Academy who played some quick and exciting football and they were just the better team on the day. Commiserations to Harlaw Academy and the scoreline might look nasty from their perspective however it wasn't a one sided game by any stretch of imagination.
