Elgin City and Lossiemouth were up against each other in a top of the league local derby clash at Borough Briggs in the North Of Scotland Under 20 league. Only six miles seperate Elgin and Lossiemouth so a good game was in prospect. Elgin beat Lossie in a reverse fixture at the start of the campaign 3-0. It was a chilly but fine night.

After a lengthy injury spell, Shane Sutherland, an experienced former Caley Thistle striker made the bench on his recovery from injury. With the Elgin City first team having a game Tuesday night, City had a youthful outfit out on the night. Lossie had first team players such as Nathan Smith and Ryan Farquhar involved.

As much as both sides will put impetus on player development, both sides went out with the desire to get three points to try and get one step closer to league success. Brora Rangers are in third and have same amount of points as Elgin with both teams having a game in hand on Lossie.

On a heavy pitch, it took a while for either side to get going in this fixture, the pitch was understandably not ideal for both teams meaning the opening exchanges were on a tepid note for both teams.

Elgin had the first notable chance of the game on the half hour mark after a dangerous ball arrived into the six yard area which was met by Moray Taylor however his header went over the bar. Lossie weren't really threatening going forward however tried to play football which was pleasing to see.

City went on the counter attack early in the second half in an attempt to get a goal. A ball was whisked across goal from Michael Watson, however he failed to connect.

Ryan Sewell then threatened at the other end for Lossie a minute later which led to a corner after a blocked effort. The best chance of the game fell to defender Nathan Smith however the centre half failed to keep his header low and a powerful effort went over the bar.

Taylor was a quiet figure up front for Elgin however had a good opportunity 13 minutes into the second half which was denied by a good catch from Murray Bushell. Taylor then had a solo effort just wide, despite the game remaining goalless, both sides had more intention of playing football after the interval which was pleasing from a neutral perspective.

Sutherland came on for Elgin after 59 minutes and had his first effort on goal after 68 minutes after a great delivery by Jake Reynolds-Jones however the forward had a tame effort which Bushell dealt with safely. Elgin looked the more dangerous side going forward and Sutherland had another effort which went wide. The former Inverness CT and Wick Academy forward was helping out his team mates and from a personal perspective was lacking in match sharpness which was expected after a lengthy period out.

Both sides made subs in an effort to get all three points, both sides got forward whenever they could however neither side was clear cut in front of goal. David Wilson had the ball in the net for City towards the end after a ball into the box however it was denied by the offside flag. Game finished 0-0 which was probably the right result
