Thistle pick up 3 points away from home

Written by

Thistle BC beat Westdyke Thistle 8-2 to keep the pressure on the teams at the top. Both sides started the game with intention of moving the ball quickly & pressing hard on what was a very tricky surface. Thistle drew first blood when Conor Claire broke the defensive line to strike low into the net only for the referee to blow his whistle for offside.

The hosts were playing very direct & got their rewards after 10 minutes when a long through ball beat the Thistle defence & their player slotted the ball past the oncoming Jamie Shingler.

Thistle responded quickly with Ciaran Bloomer breaking the Westdyke Thistle line only to be brought down in the area. Bloomer dusted himself down & stuck the penalty away. The visitors now had their tails up and started taking control of the game pressing Westdyke Thistle back & Lucas Park put Thistle 2-1 up with a good strike from the edge of the area.

Westdyke Thistle then had to come out to Thistle to try & level matters however Thistle broke the line & Bloomer got his 2nd. The attacking trio of Ciaran Bloomer, Conor Claire & Beeses Rai were causing Westdyke Thistle no end of trouble with their pace & direct attacking play although the hosts were stronger in the middle of the park.

Thistle were now in control despite the valiant Westdyke Thistle efforts all over the pitch & Beeses Rai added a hat-trick before the hosts pulled up back to make it 6-1 Thistle at half time. The introduction of Reece Mathieson for Thistle gave them added energy & he worked tirelessly to press the visitors in all areas. He was rewarded with a goal of his own when Conor Claire picked up a slack clearance, beat 2 defenders & squared it to Mathieson to stick the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Euan Bridgeford added Thistle's 8th goal with a great effort from outside the area hitting the base of the post & going in. Although the scoreline suggests that Thistle were dominant throughout, Westdyke worked hard to the very end, the visitors just took their chances when they had them.

Thistle had Jamie Shingler in goals to thank for a couple of superb point blank saves to ensure his team held on to their comfortable lead. It was a very good team effort from all involved with Shingler, Beeses Rei & Ciaran Bloomer the better players for Thistle.
