Written by

As 2017 draws to a close, it has brought some together some fantastic stories throughout the Aberdeen & District Juvenile League & some records have been broken along the way as well.

Banks O’Dee Albion 2000 age group went & won the Scottish Cup at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie after a 2-1 win over Syngenta Juveniles back in May. The City of Aberdeen hosted a civic reception in recognition of this achievement from the Spain Park outfit back in August. The win in the Scottish Cup culminated a run where Albion was undefeated domestically for 5 seasons. Albion made steady progress in the Scottish Cup year on year having made the final against Rossvale at Under 16s level before succumbing to a 2-1 defeat before achieving the ultimate prize back in May.

Formartine United Under 14s also made history. After a 3-0 victory for the Aberdeenshire outfit over Petershill Athletic in the Scottish Cup, Formartine made the last 32 for the first time in the clubs history. Formartine have another home tie in the new year against Bellshill BC.

The ADJFA has so far this season seen 564 matches played with 519 of those games resulting in wins & 3,821 goals scored with 220 teams all playing 11 a side football.

ADJFA President Graham Mutch gave his assessment of the season so far when he said: “There has been some healthy competition in all age groups this season so far, it’s not just the usual suspect of teams that have been leading from the front which has been great for Juvenile football in this area.

“Our Under 13s has been the strongest it’s been for a good couple of years & there is still Under 13s teams left in the Scottish Cup as there is at 14s, 17s & 19s.

The Under 13s A league sees Elite FC currently sitting top remaining unbeaten with 5 wins & 2 draws with their only being 3 points separating Banks O’Dee Albion currently in 2nd & Deveronvale in 6th. Only 2 points separate Ellon Meadows in 7th & Westdyke at the bottom of the pile.

Cove BC are in amongst the mix there and coach Mark Robb said: “I think the boys have developing really well & taken to 11 aside very quickly. They have put in some good performances against some really good sides in Aberdeen & in the Scottish Cup, I am really looking forward to what the rest of the season shapes up for them in the coming months.”

Peterhead currently top the B league although Culter United have two games in hand on the Buchan outfit who have a 100% record with Colony Park also having won all their league games having played a game less than United. Mintlaw & Turriff United currently top the C league Sections 1 & 2.

There is a lot more competition this season in the Under 14s A league. Banks O’Dee are an improved outfit and currently sit top with Dyce, Thistle BC & Westdyke behind them with the latter having games in hand on the teams above them. 3 points currently separate Westdyke Thistle in 6th & Banchory at the bottom.

Westdyke coach Ellis Renford said: “After a fantastic first season at 11 aside last season, we were hoping to carry on our local form which was great last season. We had a bit of a surprise in the 1st game of the season when we drew 2-2 against Thistle & they got a last minute equaliser.

“We’ve done very well in the league since & also done well in the Scottish Cup with the highlight being going down to Prestwick & recording a 10-0 win against Caledonian who are flying.

The B league sees Peterhead BC top of the league with Colony Park behind them with a game in hand. A win for the Inverurie outfit will see them level on points with the Blue Toon. West End FC are situated in 4th however also have games in hand on the teams at the top.

West End are in the last 32 of the Scottish Cup with a home tie against Cumbernauld Colts to follow & coach Ryan Waters had his say on the achievements by saying : “The Scottish Cup games have been excellent & we have had loads of memories so far & have met people from different leagues & the hospitality has been fantastic.”

Nicolls Youth & Deveronvale are currently top of the Under 14s C League Section 1 & 2. Cove BC & Ellon Meadows who are 2nd in the respective leagues are behind them though & have games in hand so there is still a long way to go.

The Under 15s A league sees Banks O’Dee Albion with a 100% record after 6 games whilst there is only six points between 2nd place Peterhead BC Jags & Formartine United in 2nd bottom so a lot of points have still to be won.

FDS: “Our season’s been a bit of a mixed bag so far. The Under 15s is a transition period for a lot of teams, we’ve had a lot of teams drop out of the under 15s league which from a league perspective has been very disappointing.

“We’ve had three strong teams pull out this season. The B league is a strong league however we’ve just had a team fold. We have only played 5/6 league games this year & the weather has been a hinderance to all teams.

Banchory BC currently top the B league with Stonehaven YFC City a point behind them & have a game in hand. Byron Milan currently top the C league however Huntly & Colony Colts have games in hand & in a more healthier position.

Only 12 points separate the Under 16s A league with Middlefield Wasps leading the way heading into Christmas. Middlefield Coach Alexander Reid said: “We’ve had a cracking start to the season, we went unbeaten until we got Banks O’Dee Albion in the Scottish Cup which was revenge for us beating them 5-2 at Balmedie.

“We’ve coached these boys since they were 6 years old & 8 of them are still with us. We took the boys away to Barcelona in April & it did gel them.  We added a couple of players in the summer & it’s just completed a squad of 18 with a great team spirit.”

Colony Colts currently top the B league with Glentanar & Newmachar breathing down their necks. Only 6 points separate Kemnay in 4th & Kintore United at the bottom. Culter Thistle top the C league.

Westdyke CC top the Under 17s A league with 6 wins from 6. Special praise has to be given to 2nd place Fraserburgh Link-Up. Last season seen them in 5th however now sit in 2nd with Westdyke getting a big 3-2 win at the Broch last weekend. Banks O’Dee Albion still has games in hand. Ellon Meadows & Middlefield Wasps are currently level top of the B league.

Inverurie Locos are currently top of the Under 19s A league with Banks O’Dee Albion & Hermes Youth expected to pose a challenge going into the 2nd half of the season. Peterhead Phoenix top the B league with 5 wins from 5.
