Middlefield looking for witnesses after pitches damaged

Written by

Middlefield Wasps FC are looking for witnesses after their pitch, which is based in Balmedie, Aberdeenshire, was damaged by someone on a motor bike on three separate occasions. They were last Monday, Tuesday & Thursday night.

Balmedie Leisure Centre & Middlefield Wasps, both run by dedicated volunteers, fundraise and spend thousands of pounds every year on maintenance of these grounds in order to keep them playable.

Mark McCready who is on the committee at Middlefield Wasps said, “The Monday & Tuesday night it was the 11 a side pitch that he’s went on however on Thursday night he went over the 7 a side pitch as well and it just means we need to fork out more money to fix the pitches.

“If our pitches aren’t available then we would have to go to council pitches which would cost about £20 a game and we have so many 11-a-side teams then we could be down another £100 just for our games to go ahead. We don’t really want to use the money for that, we want to use the money for other stuff such as to develop the pitches we have at Balmedie.

“The gardener is going to go out and have a look at it this week & see what he can do to repair it. With the way Aberdeen is at the moment with the oil industry, it is hard to get sponsorship and this club is self-funded and our kids pay fees for everything.

If anyone saw this individual on or around the pitch and country park, please contact Police Scotland by calling 101. Incident number 10025/12.
