Kirkintilloch Rob Roy descended on the Highlands during the Easter break. Instead of playing in a tournament close to home the youngsters travelled north to partake in a couple of friendlies with two teams. The club were thankful to Alness United secretary Tommy Regan who helped in the organisation of the games.
Kirkintilloch left around 9am on the Friday traveling to Fortrose for a light training session ahead of their first friendly fixture against Dingwall United . After a light session the team visited Chanory point in Inverness for a spot of Dolphin spotting. Rob Roy ran out comfortable 4-1 winners versus Dingwall United. Aitken, Wood, Rooney and an unfortunate own goal gave Roby Roy the win in Fortrose. After the game the team were treated to dinner at Pizza Hut in Inverness.
After a relaxing evening, the boys were up early to take part in a training session in Alness with Tommy who arranged it with Alness Academy. Roby Roy took advantage of the weather in the Highlands heading to the beach at Rosemarkie, near Avoch, to chill out and to have a Rowing session with Avoch Rowing which was fantastic for the boys. After a relaxing evening the club were treated to a barbecue at Avoch Community where all money raised was put towards a local sports area for the community. The boys had their own freedom on Saturday evening where the boys did their own thing and went for food at several different options at the Retail Park, before heading back to the hotel ahead of their final friendly on the Sunday.
Rob Roy headed for Morrisons in Alness for breakfast in Alness before facing off against Alness Academy which turned out to be a fantastic friendly and an advert for youth football. Rob Roy took an early lead through Ferry before Alness clawed back three quick goals. Gillespie then got Rob Roy's second but Alness went two ahead shortly after. But the comeback was complete as a Wade penalty then another Rooney goal saw the scores go to 4-4 with 10 minutes to go. However Alness took the lead again with 7 minutes remaining but Rob Roy's never say die attitude saw Wade score once more in the dying embers of the game.
After the game Alness Academy put on soup, sandwiches and drinks for all players and spectators who made the long journey north.
Rob Roy had a fantastic weekend in the Highlands helped along with some sunshine which helped too.
Hopefully Kirkintilloch Rob Roy will venture North again soon!
