6th place Hamilton Accies hosted 7th place Dunfermline at the Superseal Stadium in a tight mid-table battle, which eventually saw the hosts convincingly take all three points in the second half after a quiet first half.

Hamilton got an early corner which was played to the edge of the box, Ross Cunningham hit it on the half volley but the effort was blocked before the Dunfermline number 1 – Cammy Gill - was forced into a save.

Dunfermline’s Lochead picked up the ball on the the edge of the box and cut inside but the shot was dealt with easily by the Hamilton shot stopper, Robbie Thomson.

One of Accies better chances came midway through the first half. Marc Kelly dribbled in and out of Dunfermline defenders and hit the ball towards the bottom corner, but the keeper pulled off a terrific save to keep the scores level.

The teams went in level at half time. It was a close first half with the ball being contested in the midfield but there were no real chances created for either side to take the lead.

Hamilton made a double substitute to bring on Lewis Smith and Ryan Tierney to replace Richard Roy and Craig Watson, hoping that they could sway the game in their favour.

The deadlock was eventually broken as the home side took the lead. Jack Breslin bombed down the line before playing a terrific low cross into the box for the substitute Tierney to slot into the keeper's near post.

Dunfermline had a brilliant chance to equalise as Scott Lochead dispossessed Jojo McGregor on the edge of his own box, he played it across goal for Callum Smith, but he blazed it over the bar.

A terrific solo effort from the other half time substitute this time. Lewis Smith with a zig zagging run before pulling the trigger from 25 yards out to double the Accies lead and give them firm control over the remaining twenty minutes.

Lewis Smith grabbed his second of the evening when the Dunfermline goalkeeper was caught with the ball at his feet. The ball was played out across the 18 yard line and all Smith had to do was keep his composure to make it 3-0 to the Accies.

Hamilton were forced into their third change when Shaun Want took a head knock. He was replaced by Ben Reilly.

Dunfermline’s Scott Lochead seemed to be their bright spark in a dull evening in Hamilton as he intercepted a poor pass from Ben Reilly, but his low driven effort was met well by the hand of Thomson.

Dunfermline made a change in personnel, bringing on Marty Todd for Robbie Crawford five minutes from full time.

It finished 3-0 to Hamilton at the Superseal stadium. It was a pretty dull first half but Hamilton took their chances well in the second half as well as keeping it tight at the back. Dunfermline could have been more clinical in the final third but it was the home side who were the comfortable winners.

Star Player
Hamilton Academical

Jack Breslin. He put in a great shift down the right side as a wing back, he was asked to play over on the left towards the end of the game where he had no issues either. A solid performance defensively and a threat going forward. He is definitely one to watch out for in the future.
Scott Lochead. He looked Dunfermline’s biggest goal threat going forward. He pressed the defenders well and created a number of chances. On another night he might have had 2 or 3 assists to his name.
Magic Moment

Dunfermline Athletic
A terrific acrobatic save from Robbie Thomson when the score was 1-0. He kept his side in front with a fingertip save from a powerful header from close range.
Lochead intercepted the ball deep inside the Hamilton Accies half, he did well to shrug off the last defender before getting a good shot away which looked destined for the bottom corner, but Thomson somehow managed to get something on it to prevent the goal.
