For the third round of the Scottish Cup, Crosshouse BC made the journey North to take on Dyce BC. However it was the home side who were victorious with a 4-2 win. Ryan Park and Zane Laird scored two goals apiece for Dyce while Crosshouse’s goals were scored by Blair Philips and Harley Barnes.
As the first half got underway, Dyce made the first real attack of the game and Josh McLaren broke through the defence and shot from the edge of the box but Crosshouse goalkeeper, Craig Dunlop, cleared the danger.
Crosshouse had their first chance with a free kick at twenty-eight yards and wide to the right. Dario Viviani crossed the ball into the box and Connor McGhee fired it just over the crossbar.
The home side were soon looking for more chances and Ryan McShea made a promising break down the wing. He crossed the ball from twenty-eight yards but it was pushed wide by Dunlop. Dyce continued to press and Rio Collie put the ball through for Zane Laird who shot from inside the box but Dunlop smothered the ball.
The visitors pressed forward and were awarded another free kick just outside the box. Viviani’s shot had the accuracy but Lucas Smith cleared the danger.
However the home side were to open the scoring in the twelfth minute. Smith put the ball through for Laird who collided with Crosshouse’s Ben Magee. Amidst cries for a penalty, Ryan Park swept in and sent the ball into the back of the net.
Crosshouse looked to respond and Magee linked up with Viviani to drive forward and Viviani shot from inside the box but it was pushed wide by Dyce goalkeeper, Jamie Shingler. The visitors continued to press and Magee’s through ball was tapped home by Blair Philips in the twentieth minute to draw the score level.
The visitors looked set to take the lead soon after, when Viviani lured Shingler out and struck from twenty-five yards but sent the ball just wide.
Dyce were pressing and creating chances but Crosshouse held their defence well. However in the twenty-ninth minute, Park struck the ball at forty yards, sending it over the keeper and into the net.
The home side continued to exert pressure and were awarded a corner. Park crossed the ball into the box and Laird tapped it home from close range to extend his side’s lead in the thirty-first minute.
Crosshouse looked for a response and Thomas Lloyd crossed the ball into the box but it was cleared by Smith. However Callum Fyfe kept the pressure on with a break through the middle but fired his shot from twenty-five yards just wide.
