A clinical second half performance from Clydebank FC saw them overcome Bellfield Royals in a cracking cup tie at the Donald Dewar Centre, Drumchapel.
The game was played at a frenetic pace with both teams looking to move the ball quickly to unsettle the opposition.
And it was the home side who had the better of the chances in the opening stages.
First, Connor Hamilton was through on goal after a quick throw in from Oisin McHugh but his shot was well saved.
Hamilton then saw his back heel flick drift just past the post after some good play on the right wing from Steven Collins.
Clydebank midfielder James Holt was causing Bellfield all sorts of problems with his pace, power and skill.
And it was Holt who provided the inch-perfect cross for Derek Hay midway through the first half, but his header went just wide.
Despite Clydebank’s pressure, the best chance of the half fell to the visitors. A great ball over the top found Royals’ striker Jamie Ferguson, who sprinted through on goal, but his powerful shot rattled the crossbar.

The second half began at the same frantic pace as the first, with some great football being played by both sides.

Both goalkeepers were tested early, Bellfield’s David Millar had a long range effort well saved by Callon Wallace before a great run by Clydebank winger Shahine Rebika almost ended with the ball in the back of the net.

The turning point came just before the hour mark when Clydebank were reduced to 10 men. However, rather than hinder the side, it invigorated them.

Less than five minutes later they got the breakthrough when Holt found some room in the box to fire a low shot at goal, which squirmed under the goalkeeper and into the net.

This increased their confidence and they began to create more goal scoring opportunities. Indeed, Ruairi Fitzpatrick scored after it fell to him in the box, only for the referee to award a free kick to Bellfield.

The second goal did arrive for Clydebank though on 68 minutes, and it was worth the wait.

Holt, a standout player all game, picked up the ball on the left and cut inside, firing a stunning strike into the top corner from 25 yards.

Bellfield never gave up though and continued to move the ball around and cause some problems, counting themselves unlucky not to have scored.

Instead, Clydebank made it 3-0 with another goal of the season contender after captain Daniel Moran’s 40 yard free kick was missed by everyone and found its way into the bottom corner.

The icing on the Clydebank cake was provided by tireless full-back Ashton Russell two minutes from time.

A great turn and pass from Robbie Sutherland in the centre of the pitch sent Rebika away down the left wing. He blitzed into the box and cut the ball across goal for Russell to tap into an empty net.

4-0 is perhaps a harsh reflection on Bellfield, who contributed greatly to a very even game, but were simply unable to take their chances. But it is Clydebank who will take their place in the fourth round, after an impressive second half showing.
