The first round of fixtures for the ADJFA season got underway last weekend with a lot of goals being scored with the new league season only two days old.
The under 13s saw big wins for Colony Park, Thistle BC, Banks O’Dee Albion, Culter Boys, Formartine United, Portlethen SC, Lewis United Youth, Donside Juvenile, Banchory Boys and Dyce BC whilst Deveronvale and Fraserburgh Link-Up served up a cracking 6-6 draw and Stonehaven Madrid got past West End winning 6-3.
Middlefield Wasps got off to the perfect start in there section 6 group in the Batt Cables Trophy beating Newtonhill 5-1. YFS gathered the thoughts of coach Don Bowman after the game “Good to start off with a win and the boys deserved it, the transition from 7-11 a side is a big one and the boys do take a bit of time to get used to it, the offside rule especially.
“We’ll push on now and look forward, we are looking to play in the B league this season, a victory this weekend against Cove guarantees us B league football.
Dyce started off the defence of their A league success last season with a 6-0 win away to Banchory. Formartine also picked up a victory on the road at CBC Hilton with Lewis United beating Westdyke 7-2 and Peterhead Jags beating West End FC Reds 3-1.
Banks O’Dee Albion v Deveronvale games last season only had 9 goals combined in the league encounters last season. Yesterday Albion started off the season in comfortable fashion winning 9-0 against the Banff outfit.
YFS gathered the thoughts of new coach Greg Watson who said “We have come in and gave everyone a fresh start, the lads did what we asked of them and both goalies played a half each and got a clean sheet.
“The back four did what we asked of them as well, we are a decent side and have a great chance of winning cups and leagues.
The B league saw home wins for Colony Park, Fraserburgh Link-Up and Insch whilst Newtonhill won against FDS away 4-2.
C league saw two big wins for Donside United and Colony Colts whilst Mintlaw BC won a tight nine goal encounter away to Dee BC.
Donside Juvenile will be playing B league football this season after a 1-0 win over Newmachar United.
There was three home wins for Culter United, Banchory Pumas and Colony Park with the latter beating the under 13s Scottish Cup winners Banks O’Dee Albion 2-0.
It was the great escape in Banff yesterday after Lewis United were 3-0 up at half time away to Deveronvale however the hosts clawed them back to draw 4-4.
Stonehaven Madrid picked up a big win away to Ellon whilst Paul Lawrie eased past Formartine United winning 11-1. Colony Colts picked up a good win away to Westdyke winning 1-0.
There were only three games in the C league with Portlethen winning away at Kemnay 3-0, Newmachar brushing aside Culter Thistle winning 9-1 and Byron Thistle winning 15-0 at Turriff.
Dyce BC will be playing A league football after a 4-2 victory over Glentanar.
The under 16s title race promises to be and exciting and open title race, Westdyke were the only team to win at home beating Fraserburgh 5-1 and there was away wins for Lewis United Youth, FDS 2001 and Culter Boys. Banks O’Dee Albion and Cove BC shared the spoils at Grandholm drawing 2-2.
Deveronvale and Westdyke Thistle were the highest scorers of the day winning 7-1 and 10-0 respectively. Colony Colts beat Formartine Reds 4-1 with Colony Park and Banchory drawing 2-2. Stonehaven beat Longside 5-1 and Huntly beat CBC Hilton 4-2.
Peterhead will once again be playing A league football after a penalty shoot-out win in their A league play-off match with Newmachar United. There was home wins for ALC Athletic, Banks O’Dee Albion and Culter Colts with Hermes Youth picking up a great win in Inverurie away to Colony Park winning 4-2.
The B league seen a couple of high scoring matches, Colony Colts and South End both recorded 7-0 wins with Ellon beating Kemnay 2-0 and Middlefield brushing aside Turriff 6-2 in what was a 1st half to forget for United. Banchory Eagles won 6-1 at Culter United.
In section one; Stonehaven won 6-1 away to Ellon whilst Culter Rovers beat Stoneywood BC 2-0 at home. Huntly and West End finis
Section three saw home wins for Banks o’Dee Albion and Turriff United over North Star and Echt. Section four saw two big wins for Inverurie Locos and Kemnay. Locos won 8-0 away to Banchory whilst Kemnay went even better and brushed aside Dee 17-0.
Section five saw two away wins for Fraserburgh Link-Up and Formartine United beating Byron Spurs and Peterhead BC comfortably.
