A cool afternoon at Little Kerse welcomed Fraserburgh Link Up YFC as they travelled South to face Syngenta Juveniles in the Scottish Youth FA Cup. On this occasion, it would be Syngenta in fluorescent orange who would warm up proceedings with a performance of ruthless confidence as they went on to secure a 5-0 victory.
The initial stages did not suggest, however, that the tie would prove to be comfortable for the home side. While Syngenta were tidy in possession, Fraserburgh looked to impose themselves and in the 8th minute Scott Murison lofted a ball over the top for Daniel Sorley. The home goalkeeper reacted sharply to win the loose ball and clear the danger.
Minutes later, Murison was causing problems again as he danced beyond two players on the left before teasing a ball across goal that evaded his teammates by a matter of inches.
Syngenta responded to the early pressure in dominant fashion and threatened to open the scoring in the 16th minute but for a superb one-handed reflex save from Andrew Dunbar. Aaron Millar was threaded clean through on goal and looked to have diverted the ball beyond Dunbar but the goalkeeper had read the effort to produce a fine stop before collecting the ball at the second attempt.
A minute later, Syngenta would have the opportunity to open the scoring they so desired as Millar drove into the box and was brought down. Tristan McArthur stepped up to calmly slot the ball into the bottom left-hand corner.
Following a period of sustained pressure, Syngenta would have a second in the 28th minute. McArthur curled in a corner which was met by the leap of Cooper Duff to nod beyond the goalkeeper with aplomb and ensure a strong lead going into the break.
