SSFA announce rule change for Scottish Shields

Written by
The Scottish Schools FA has confirmed that 2015/16 will introduce a cap on players from the Scottish FA Performance Schools within their cup competitions. Whereas previously there was no restriction on who could participate, now a maximum of four outfield players from the Performance School programme can play in any Scottish Schools FA Shield or Plate tie. A goalkeeper is also permitted.
The official rule change reads as follows: "Exceptions to Player Eligibility – players who attend a Scottish FA Performance School may represent their school in Cup and Shield competitions.  No more than four (4) outfield players attending that school as part of the Performance School programme may take part in a match.  This exception does not apply to goalkeepers."
The schools affected by this are Braidhurst High School (Motherwell), Broughton High School (Edinburgh), Graeme High School (Falkirk), Grange Academy (Kilmarnock), Hazlehead Academy (Aberdeen), Holyrood Secondary School (Glasgow) and St John’s High School (Dundee).
Whilst this ruling will be put in place for the national competitions, regional associations will be allowed to choose whether or not to adapt it to their local competitions.
