Colony go Loco after league triumph

Written by

It was yet another successful season for Colony Locos 19s, who were defeated just once on their way to their Soccerworld League A triumph.

They scored a whopping 82 goals in 23 matches across all competitions and manager Alan Gordon (pictured, right) feels the team's focus in training has been paramount to their success this season.

"The team performed well throughout the season showing a decent level of consistency resulting in only narrowly losing one league game all season. As a group they have trained well with good numbers every week which has gone a long way to explaining the reason we won the league title which is further proof that if you train properly you get the rewards when you play matches," Gordon told Youth Football Scotland.

Gordon pinpoints a late comeback towards the tail end of the season was key to coming away with the league title.

"The management team all agree that the game we feel that was decisive was away to Stonehaven in the league. We were trailing 2-1 with around 10 minutes to go with very little between the side when the guys dug deep to score twice in five minutes to secure the victory against a good Stonehaven side. This was in a tough game and gave our lads the belief they needed to go on and win the league," Gordon said.

It was a complete team effort for the Locos this season, with a focus on match preparation key to their success.

"The biggest thing I think that the players took from the season that if you work hard for one another the rewards will come. These guys trained really well throughout the season and gelled extremely well as a group with no egos in sight. Everyone stuck together and realised early on that our strength was in the collective group and not any one individual. As managers and coaches we learnt that preparation for matches is just as important as the match itself," Gordon said.

"There were far too many high points in the season to single any one player out as every single player contributed to the league success. Yes we had some technically very good players but we also have guys that do a lot of unselfish work for the team who are equally as important. It takes a very good effort to either be joint top or outright league leaders for the entire season which was only achievable due to the strength of the squad. "

New challenges will arise next season, with just five players staying at Colony Locos. Six have been picked up by local Highland League team Inverurie Locos while others are going to university or college elsewhere.

"There are five players remaining for next season which is good and will be of great benefit to the lads coming up next season from the 17s age group," Gordon said.

Congratulations go to Colony Locos under 19s, 2014/15 Soccerworld League A champions!
