Convincing win for Wasps in B League tie

Middlefield secured all three points in emphatic style in a thrilling B League tie at Balmedie’s Beach Park.

Deveronvale had the game’s first chance of the match as Robert McIntosh’s shot was saved by Middlefield goalkeeper Jamie Butler.

It was the hosts that took the lead in the 10th minute as Michael Pottinger’s shot from outside the box found the back of the net after good play from the player.

Middlefield looked to extend their lead and Zane Islane had a shot saved by Deveronvale goalkeeper Kier Barker.

In the 25th minute, they made it 2-0 when Kieran Jamieson turned inside the box and his shot found the back of the net to double his side’s lead.

Deveronvale looked to get back into the match and an Adam Taylor strike went just wide of the goal.

Middlefield nearly added another when an Albert Kos strike was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by Kier Barker to keep his side in the match.

Just before the interval, Deveronvale pulled one back when Scott Urquhart chipped the ball into the net from the right hand side to score for his side with a fantastic finish.

Middlefield made it 3-1 shortly after the restart when Jamieson scored a great goal as he struck the ball with his left foot from the right hand side of the box that went into the top corner of the goal.

The hosts scored their fourth when Pottinger scored a sublime free kick that went into the top corner to put his team three goals clear.

Deveronvale pulled one back after 52 minutes when Taylor scored with a good strike from the left to give the Banffshire side a lifeline.

Middlefield scored their fifth goal of the match as Daniel Critchard scored with a good strike from inside the right of the box.

They then scored four goals in the space of six minutes. Kos’ ball in from the right found Ryan Anderson whose initial shot was saved and he scored the rebound for his side’s sixth goal of the match.

A good through ball found Islane who finished with good composure after being one-on-one with the goalkeeper to make it 7-2.

Islane then scored again as he finished off after a good pass from the left by Anderson.

It was 9-2 to Middlefield after Anderson finished off after a good move from the home side.

Islane completed his hat-trick with six minutes remaining, finishing well to secure a fantastic win for the hosts.

Middlefield coach Andy Butler thought it was a “really good” second half performance for his side. He thought that his team played “really well” and that the quality of his team’s finishing was “excellent”.
Deveronvale manager Neil Campbell thought that the “better team” won on the day and wished Middlefield all the best for the remainder of the season.
