The game kicked off in blustery conditions, the wind advantage in Kemnay’s favour. Early in the first half the game was evenly contested between the two sides, both of which were trying to get to grips with the conditions.
However, on 18 minutes, a long ball from the Kemany defence caught the Ellon defence off guard, allowing Craig Hector of Kemnay to slip the ball past Smith to give Kemnay the lead.
It could have two moments later when Hector, again, trying a speculative effort from long range, which came off the post straight to the feet of Law, who failed to convert the rebound.
Ellon’s midfield started to get a grip of the game, managing to control the tempo of the match, creating two chances each for Ritchie and Buchan, Ellon’s strike partnership.

Ellon began the second half with the wind in their backs, continuing from where thad finished the first half, by controlling play in the middle of the park.
An equalising goal finally came for the home side as Fowlie played a good through ball into Gordon who was brought down in the box by Kemnay’s Duguid. The resultant penalty was converted by Ellon’s number 10, Dean Bowie.
As Ellon pushed for more goals, Kemnay only managed to create very few breakaway chances, one of which came close to resulting in a goal, however the shot was cleared off the line by Sellar.
Ellon created numerous chances after that, resulting in them taking the lead, as Bowie played in Ritchie who drifted past the Kemnay defender and slotted home to make it 2-1.
Five minutes later Ellon made it 3-1 when Ritchie, again, latched onto yet another through ball from midfield and finding the corner of the net.
Ritchie then completed his hat-trick when he beat two Kemnay defenders and found the back of the net with a cool finish.
In the last 10 minutes Ellon created more good chances, however they were unable to convert.
