Ellon Meadows beat Middlefield Wasps by four goals to two in this B League clash at Aberdeen’s Aulton Outdoor Pitches. In a somewhat scrappy game, it was the Ellon side that took all three points with clinical finishing.

It was Middlefield who had the first effort of the match as Sam Barbour’s shot from outside the box was saved by Ellon’s Ross Smith in goal.

It was the visitors who took the lead as Dean Bowie’s shot was saved by Tom Smith in the Middlefield goal only for Thammalak Buchan to score with the rebound.

A minute later Ellon doubled their advantage as Kieran Cranna headed home after a good corner was delivered from the right hand side.

Despite being two down Middlefield looked to get back into the match and Michal Wosinski had an effort from outside the box saved by Smith.

Ellon nearly made it three before the interval as Bowie’s effort from a narrow angle inside the right hand side of the box went narrowly wide.

Middlefield were playing the match with ten men as one of their players went off injured and they had no substitutes available.

Ellon looked to get on the score sheet once again and had the first chance of the second half as Darren Ritchie’s shot from the right hand side went over the crossbar.

Ellon made it 3-0 as Angus Mutch scored to surely wrap up all three points for the visitors with a good finish.

Two minutes later Ellon scored again to make it 4-0 as Ritchie’s low shot from the left hand side of the box found the back of the net to make the game safe for the visitors.

Despite being 4-0 down Middlefield looked for a consolation goal and got that when Taylor Leslie’s shot was saved by Smith and Wosinski slotted home the rebound from the right hand side.

Middlefield scored again to make it 4-2 as Leslie’s ball in from the left was tapped home by Wosinski for his second goal of the game to give Middlefield encouragement.

As the game ended both teams can be pleased with their performances, with Ellon delighted at getting the three points and Middlefield delighted at showing their grit and determination after playing the majority of the match with ten men.
