Colony manage to turn the tide against Turriff Bombers

Written by  Colony Colts

Fixture: Turriff Bombers v Colony Colts
Competition: Under 15's ADJFA "C" League
Date: 01/02/15

Colony Colts travelled to Turriff on Sunday to face Turriff Bombers in one of only a handful of games going ahead due to the weather.

A snow flurry during the warm up gave way to bright sunshine for the first half and it was Turriff who started the brightest, scoring after only a minute.

Colony took a while to settle but managed to equalise through Scott Beverly to ensure the sides went into half time level.

Turriff started the second half strongly and soon got back in front when Colony were unable to clear properly from six yards.

The weather began to darken, as did Colony's hopes of getting anything from the match when Turriff went further ahead, again the visitors unable to clear from a corner.

With twenty five minutes left to play, a vicious hailstorm blew in forcing the referee to take the players off the pitch until it passed. The Colony coaches took advantage of this break to have a few choice words with the players, and when the game restarted five minutes later it looked like a different Colts team had came out.
Jamie Reid was played through and fired in over the keeper at the second attempt to give them hope.

With players tiring on the soft surface the Colony coaches took full advantage of having five subs, reintroducing Clark and Macleod with ten minutes remaining.

And the reward was reaped soon after with Euan Clark running past the Turriff defence to slot home the equaliser.

But Colony could now smell victory, and when Johnston was fouled on the left of the box with two minutes remaining the touchline held it's breath. Reid's free kick was dropped perfectly at the back post for Connor Macleod to stoop and head home to complete a great comeback.

In the final minute there was almost a very special moment to finish off the game, when Colony left back O'Grady picked up the ball on his own 18 yard line and went on a dazzling run all the way to the opposite box. However his left foot shot didn't match the run as it sliced high and wide.

With time almost up Turriff were awarded a free kick twenty five yards out after a handball, but there was to be no final twist as the long range effort was off target.
