Our next scheduled course will take place in West Lothian in April. It will run on nine consecutive Fridays, starting on April 27th. The the cost of the course is £30.

Upon completing your first full 11-a-side match, you shall become a member of SFA Referees (Edinburgh & District) Association.

Refereeing requires far more than just knowledge of the Laws of the Game. It is of course about gaining experience and above all commitment.

As an Association we shall provide you with the knowledge required to start out in refereeing but we expect a reasonable level of commitment in return. This shall include a commitment to your ongoing development, a commitment to attend monthly meetings and also a commitment to attend physical training on a regular basis.

Having completed the three stages of the New Entrance Course you shall be registered as a Probationary member of the SFA Referees Association (Edinburgh & District). This shall last for two seasons during which you shall be expected to attend a further 6 modules on practical refereeing before being categorised as an ordinary member of the Association.

You will gain experience by actively refereeing and also through the Coaching and Development we offer our members at our monthly meetings which are held on the first Thursday of each month (August to May) at the Marriot Hotel, Glasgow Road, 7.15pm. We are fortunate that within our ranks we have some of Scotland’s top SPL officials such as referees Calum Murray, George Salmond, Mike Tumilty, Crawford Allan and Brian Colvin along with top assistants Graham Chambers and Keith Sorbie who lead monthly coaching sessions and debates on points of play.

As new members we would expect you to attend monthly meetings whenever possible.

The Association meets each Tuesday at The University of Edinburgh,  Deans High School in Livingston and in Galashiels for outdoor fitness training. Training begins at 7pm with changing facilities available from 6:30pm. We shall be attending training on one of the early weeks of the course

Training is free and in order to progress in refereeing attendance at training and monthly meetings are a basic requirement.

The Midlothian course is the next scheduled entrance route to refereeing, but there will also be other new classes throughout 2012.
