Very promising news regarding new proposals for Saughton Enclosure in the South East news section of website. I hope the funding for the whole project (including 3g pitch)can be found as soon as possible. Surely the politicians can see the benefits / savings in other areas such as Health & Crime that make every penny spent encouraging sport, not an expense, but an investment in the future.

maybe there should be a rise in the crime in the area(ie pilton and spartans) and the politions would take heed.what a great idea to give the economic revivale of the country a boost, invest in people and communities use local youth labour they spend more of their wage on pleasure spreading it to more companys more people and creating more jobs.

If I read the article correctly this development was for the benefit of one club and one club only and that was Hutchie Vale.

Is this fair?

It is just becoming another Spartans Academy scenario where one club benefits from public money.

hopefully more teams / clubs can follow the Spartans template and therefore benefit the Edinburgh region as a whole. my view is that better facilities produce better players, although I appreciate that every team cant have this sort of set up.

"although I appreciate that every team cant have this sort of set up."

Thats the biggest understatement I have heard in a long time.

BUT can't the smaller teams group together? E.G. Take a look at www.decsc.co.uk/ - none of those five clubs are huge in their own right, but coming together they can pretty much 'do a Spartans'.

Thoughts?
