Raith Rovers came back from 1-0 down to triumph 4-1 in the Under 15s League Cup Final against Dunfermline Athletic. Caitlin Ross had initially put Dunfermline ahead but an equaliser from Sophie Aitken, a double from Kerri Dinnel and a sublime late goal from Nicole Carter ensured that Raith Rovers claimed the trophy.
The first chance came from a Dunfermline corner in just the 2nd minute. The ball was launched into the box and, after a bit of a scrap in the goal area, the ball was diverted towards the goal. Raith Rovers ‘keeper Chloe Miller made a great save low to her left to keep the ball out.
From then on Raith Rovers were the stronger side creating the greater number of chances. Dinnel had an effort that struck the side netting on the 5th minute.
Not long after a Raith Rovers free kick was crossed into the box but, after a deflected shot, Dunfermline’s goalkeeper, Kira Sutler, claimed the ball.
Despite Raith Rovers looking the bigger threat it was Dunfermline that took the lead on the 12th minute courtesy of Caitlin Ross. She pursued the ball that had been played beyond her and expertly shrugged of the defender challenging her. Ross then took the ball towards the left of the goal, paused to wait for the goalkeeper to commit, then expertly slotted it in to make the score 1-0.
Raith Rovers continued as they had been before despite this setback, much to their credit. Nicole Carter and Michaela McLachlan both had good chances to equalize with their efforts only just missing the target.
However the pressure eventually told as the equaliser came in the 26th minute. A corner kick found Sophie Aitken in the box and she duly headed home after making a fantastic run to beat her marker to the ball. The scores remained level up until the half time break.

The second half was much like the first with Raith Rovers creating the greater chances. Just a minute in and McLachlan rounded Sutter but put her shot inches past the left post.
Soon after it was Rebecca McGowan’s turn to have a pop at goal bending her shot just over the crossbar.
On the 40th minute Kerri Dinnel put the team in red 2-1 up. After a neat run from the right she fired the ball past Sutter into the back of the net, with far too much power and accuracy for the goalkeeper to do anything about it.
Ross remained Dunfermline’s biggest threat throughout the game. 3 minutes after her team had conceded for a second time, she found herself in on goal but her shot was blocked by one of the Raith Rovers defenders.
For the next while Dunfermline attempted to get back in the game but were halted at every opportunity by a well organised defence. Every cross or pass was blocked, cleared, or intercepted. It was a real show of defensive quality characterized by the leadership and communication of Aitken at the back.
On the 59th minute Dinnel got her second and Raith Rovers third goal of the game after a neat finish into the bottom right hand corner of the net which appeared to knock the stuffing out of the Dunfermline team.
Soon after it was 4-1 with the best goal of the game so far from Carter. She found herself in possession near the edge of the 18 yard box and curled her effort neatly into the goal with the goalkeeper unable to get near the ball.
The final whistle went and Raith Rovers were the champions thanks to their clinical attacking but also their commanding defensive display. They were thoroughly deserving of their league cup win.
