U16s Trans World Soccer Scottish Youth FA Cup - 2nd Round
23 September 2014
Antonine Squad: Doak, Maciver, Manley, Kelly, Miller, Hutton, Hamilton, Sweeny, Boyle, Gallacher, Donaghy, Cairney, McGinlay
Antonine had an early start travelling through to Stirling for this 10:00 KO. They went into game with a depleted squad with keeper Carroll, midfielders McKendrick, Maxwell, McInally and striker James all missing.
A bad start when in under a minute Riverside went ahead. A long ball wasn't cut out and the striker calmly slotted home past Mikey Doak to open the scoring.
This kick started Antonine into the game and went on the attack with Danny Hamilton just getting robbed of the ball as he was about to shoot. He then came close again as his 25 yard chip went narrowly wide with the keeper beat.
The equaliser eventually came on 15 minutes when the returning Dean Miller volleyed home from 15 yards from a Mark Sweeny free kick.
Adam Boyle then came close beating his man and firing just wide. But, ten minutes to half time a clearance by Brendan Kelly was blocked and two passes later the Riverside striker crossed for the attacking midfielder to slot home.
Rriverside should have went further ahead when a free kick played in left the striker with an empty net to score, but he put it over the bar from 5 yards out.
Half Time: Riverside FC 2-1 Antonine FC
Antonine came out fired up at the start of the 2nd half and an Owen Gallacher corner was headed just over by Kelly. Miller was next to come close as he also headed just over.
The game was getting played mostly in the Riverside half, but Antonine were wary of the counter attack. Boyle was then put through but just as he was about to shoot a fantastic last ditch tackle thwarted him.
With ten minutes to go Gallacher played in Boyle, but his touch took him wide and the keeper managed to block his effort.
Antonine were now throwing everything at it and had a front four now, but a Hamilton effort that just went wide in injury time was the only effort they had in the remaining time.
A poor 1st half cost antonine big time here and they were unlucky in the 2nd half. They totally dominated, but missed chances and slack defending cost them
