Discovery Lads FC were delighted to complete a league and cup double this season. They sealed it with a victory in the J Bolton Cup Final over a strong Forfar Boys team that had beaten them twice in the league this season. Goals from Sean Reekie, Zack Ferrie and Ben Thomson (2) had Discovery four goals up before Lewis Pass got one back for Forfar late on.
Both teams had done well to reach this stage of the competition with Forfar seeing off Broughty in the semi final and Discovery beating St. James.
Both teams started the game brightly with the early exchanges mostly taking place in the middle of the park and loose balls being dealt with calmly by both goalkeepers. The breakthrough came from a corner when Reekie picked up the ball on the nearside before placing the ball past William Milligan.
Forfar almost replied straight away when Conor Thomson sent a low shot narrowly wide from just outside the box.
Forfar and Thomson broke again a few minutes later with a fast, strong run up the wing but goalkeeper Ben Mitchell ended up with the ball.
Discovery’s Scott Henderson then played a great through ball to Ferrie who produced a calm low finish to send the side based at Drumgeith two goals ahead.
Discovery remained in control for the rest of the half. Their best chance came when Thomson worked clear but Milligan saved brilliantly with his feet. Although Forfar fashioned a couple of nice breaks but couldn’t get the ball in the net.

The second half began with a good chance for Forfar with Thomas Cooper winning the ball and dancing away from three Discovery defenders before setting Thomson up to run down the wing however the danger was dealt with well by Discovery’s back line.
Discovery then pressed up the field with Ferrie sending a cross into the six yard box that was tapped in at the back post by Ben Thomson for Discovery’s third.   Malliff had a chance to make it four not long after but Milligan produced a fantastic save at point blank range.
Forfar’s Alistair Wilson then went then went through on goal but a determined tackle in the box from Max Craig allowed Discovery to regroup and prevent the goal. Forfar constructed another chance not long after when Pass set up Jordan Morrison just outside the box but the shot went narrowly wide.
Discovery then pressed up the field and won a corner when Forfar’s David Pearson got his body in the way of a strong shot from Ferrie.   Reekie then nodded Ferrie’s corner just over the bar.
Forfar’s Thomson then picked up a loose ball and ran towards goal but was pressured into dragging his shot wide by strong pressure from Craig.
Thomson swiftly had to turn defender to thwart an eager Ben Thomson on the break. But Thomson was not to be denied a second and Discovery’s fourth, the ball received from Blues was slotted into the net despite Milligan getting his fingers to the ball.
It was almost five for Discovery when Harvey Patterson showed great guile to take a quick free kick to Taylor Anderson whose thunderous shot cannoned back off the woodwork.
Reekie was then dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Forfar were to have last say in the game with a corner headed narrowly over by Wilson. Pass then got clear of Discovery’s defence to slot the ball low past Mitchell.
Both teams can look back on fantastic seasons and forward knowing they have the talent to produce another great season next year.

Conor Thomson was Tenacious and determined all afternoon, winning tackles and making runs down the wing. Was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.
Zac Ferrie took his goal calmly and also set up Thomson's first with a marvellous cross. Always looked dangerous whether it was putting teammates through on goal or shooting himself.

Colin Gray coach of Forfar, said: "Well done to Discovery, they never let us get the passing going. We beat them narrowly twice in the league, but we never got the passing going today."
William Henderson coach of Discovery, said: "Forfar beat us twice in the league but we came good in the end. We won the league last week against Broughty so that's the double. Forfar challenged us all season but we won the Crunch."
