The sun was shining at North End Park, and the crowd were ready for a great match up between Dundee West and Monifieth. Both teams have had tremendous seasons, and are fired up to take the Jean Pierre Babin Cup.
The game kicked off with a great start, Dundee West were controlling the ball well and holding possession but Monifieth were putting them under a lot of pressure.
Monifieth’s pressing paid off early, in the 15th minute Jordan Sime was played through the defence and into the box. Sime controlled the ball well then placed it past the keeper making it 1-0.
Monifieth almost made it 2-0 after a powerful shot slipped past the keeper, but Martin Walker cleared the ball brilliantly before it could cross the line. Dundee West were still passing the ball around well but Monifieth’s pressure was causing them to make some mistakes.
Dundee West came close to equalising after a nice chipped ball was played to Ben Edmunds who then dribbled into the box, but Monifieth keeper Stephen Beattie came off his line quickly and caused Edmunds to send his shot just wide.
Monifieth nearly increased their lead just before half time with a fantastic free kick from Calumn Tippet but it rattled the cross bar.
The half was over and Monifieth were 1-0 up, their work rate was impressive and their quick passing moves proved to be deadly. Dundee West were passing the ball around well, and had a few close chances but were struggling to create more.

The second half kicked off, and both teams were firing on all cylinders. Dundee West had the first chance after Scott Brown made a quick dribble down the left wing, and then played the ball into Douglas Hunt inside the box. Hunt then turned skilfully and passed it out to Kieran Fitzgerald who hit a low shot towards goal but Milne got down well. Monifieth had their own chance soon after, Joe Matthew was nearly through on goal but Martin Walker made a superb tackle and cleared the danger.
Douglas Hunt almost equalised for Dundee West in the 58th minute. He controlled a great chipped ball through to him inside the box, but his shot was narrowly wide of the right post. Jordan Sime had another close opportunity for Monifieth but his powerful shot was denied by the post.
Dundee West were attacking well and had quite a some great counter attacks, but Monifieth were defending brilliantly and holding off their offence. Monifieth still looked dangerous and kept putting in 100% effort.
Rhys Hutton nearly made the score 1-1 late on in the game, from a spectacular side volley just outside the box. The shot looked like it was about to dip the keeper but it landed on the top of the net.
Monifieth sealed their win in the 75th minute with a second goal. Matthew Dean fired a powerful shot towards goal, but despite Sam Webster's solid save Keir Anderson picked up the rebound and smacked it into the back of the net making it 2-0.
The game finished shortly after and Monifieth were the winners. Monifieth fought hard throughout the match and continued to chase the ball and press the Dundee West players. Dundee West put in a great effort and really turned it on in the second half, but didn’t take their chances well enough. Both teams attacking were impressive and they displayed some great skill.
