The was still in full force at North End Park, but this didn’t bother Fairmuir or Riverside as they were fired up to battle it out for the Diamond Jubilee Cup. Fairmuir were looking to win their second cup of the season, but Riverside have had a great cup run and it looked to be a close match-up.
Fairmuir had a close chance early on, Steven Abbot hit a brilliant volley towards goal from a corner but it grazed the cross bar. Fairmuir were controlling the ball well and were building up some great passing moves, but Riverside looked dangerous when counter attacking.
The boys in orange took the lead in the 19th minute, a long ball through was played to Keiran McWilliam who then went through one on one with the keeper. McWilliam then slotted it past the keeper with great composure making the score 1-0.
Fairmuir were pressing hard for another goal, Vincent Edmonds came close after beating a couple of defenders inside the box but was tackled well by Thomas MacPhail. Cameron Christie also had a close chance after a swift passing move with Edmonds but the Riverside defence managed to clear the danger.
The first half was over and Fairmuir were in the lead. Fairmuir had a lot of possession and created plenty of good chances, but Riverside were still in the game as their defending was solid but just needed more goal scoring opportunities.
