In the opening minutes of the Scottish Cup quarter final, it was noticeable how much this game meant to both sides.

Bonnybridge seemed to be creating the majority and the best of opportunities in the first 20 minutes and after some heavy pressing, Josh Taplin finally converted one of the chances to make it 1-0 to the visitors.

Nearly 5 minutes later, Andrew Ballentine of Bonnybridge wriggled his way past 3 or 4 of the East Kilbride players. His thunderbolt of a shot hit the crossbar and bounced away from danger in a piece of football deserving a goal.

Half Time: East Kilbride GC Gold 0-1 FC Bonnybridge

After the break chances never really arose despite East Kilbride dominating and pressing Bonnybridge back in the second half. It was constant pass after pass and it showed how much of a good footballing side EK were and it also showed that Bonnybridge were willing to get all their players behind the ball to prevent the home side getting an equaliser.

East Kilbride's constant possession finally came to an end as Bonnybridge knew they would have to start pressing back otherwise there would be an equaliser.

A loose ball picked up from Andrew Ballentine of Bonnybridge saw him drive at East Kilbride's defence, where he was then brought down in a dangerous area.

Josh Taplin was to step up and it was clear why as his effort rocketed along the surface. The EK keeper was unable to keep a hold of the ball and it fell gratefully to Andrew Kay's feet. He tapped the ball in to make it 2-0 to the visitors and secure their place in the semi-finals of the Scottish cup.
