The weather may have called off some games but todays Maryfield Leauge game went ahead at Dawson Park. Ferry came away with a vital three points from Lochside, widening the gap between the two teams. Despite Lochside equalising Matthew MacDonald scored a late goal for Ferry to make it 2-1.

Lochside kicked the game off, they attacked straight away looking for an early goal. Andrew Montgomery dribbled down the left wing with great pace, but Steven Howie put in a strong challenge to stop him.

Soon after Gavin Cathro beat a player on the wing then tried to send a cross into the box, but Allan Grant made a great sliding challenge. Andrew Montgomery was nearly through on goal again but Dylan Cook made a crucial tackle.

In the 26th minute, Ryan Robb dribbled into the Lochee box but was then brought down winning a penalty for Ferry Athletic. Gavin Cathro stepped up to the spot, with the chance to get the first goal of the game. He placed the ball to the left, beating the keeper who dived right. But it went just wide of the post and the score stayed at 0-0.

Soon after in the 34th minute, Ferry went 1-0 up. The ball was thrown in to Gavin Cathro in the right side of the box. Cathro then chipped the ball into the centre of the box for Ryan Robb to head the ball into the back of the net.

Robb comes close again minutes later, Darren Barnett made a great dribble into the box then passed it to Robb. Ryan Robb tries to control the ball, he takes a shot at goal but Jason King makes a fantastic save. The half time whistle blew soon after and the first half finished at 1-0 Ferry Athletic.

Lochside came into the second half looking to score. Their first chance came when Ryan Stirton struck a powerful long shot towards goal, it looked like it was about to dip into the net but rattled off the cross bar. Stirton was unlucky not to score again a few minutes later when Lochside won a free kick. Ryan Stirton smacked the ball low and hard towards goal, it took a big deflection in the box and looked like it was going to beat the goalkeeper but it just bounced wide.

Darren Barnett came off for Jamie Kerr in the 58th minute. A minute later, Callum Faulkner made a great dribble down the wing. He played a good ball in to Gavin Cathro in the box but Craig Menmuir made a great tackle to stop the chance.

Ferry came close in the 64th minute. Jason King came out for a one on one with Callum Faulkner who played the ball to Matthew MacDonald, the goal was open for MacDonald but he was at an awkward angle to finish. He chipped the shot towards goal but it narrowly missed the goal and went wide.

Lochside scored an equaliser in the 73rd minute. Lochside crossed the ball into the box. The ball frantically bounced around the box as the defence tried to clear it and the Lochside players tried to find the net. Amongst the scramble the ball was tapped towards goal and James Morrow tried to clear it away from goal but it hit off him and crossed the line making it 1-1.

Lochside nearly took the lead from a free kick in the 80th minute from the halfway line. The ball was sent straight into the box, it took a bounce and Ryan Campbell tried to header it towards goal but it went wide. Ferry then had a chance when Callum Faulkner used a great bit of skill to beat the Lochside player on the wing and then cross a great ball into Gavin Cathro. Cathro controlled the ball well in the box and tried to turn and shoot but Jason King made a good save.

Ferry Athletic scored late on in the game to make it 2-1. Faulkner showed great pace by getting passed the Lochside defence once more, he then passed the ball to Cathro who was waiting in the box. Cathro then played the ball to Matthew MacDonald who calmly put the ball in the back of the net.

The game finished 2-1 Ferry Athletic. Both teams put in great performances and looked like they could have clinched the three points throughout the match. Ferry Athletic always looked dangerous when attacking and Cathro & Faulkner gave the Lochside defence a tough job. Lochside had a fantastic work rate and gave 100% throughout the match.
