Morgan take points after tough Monifieth test

Morgan vs Monifieth Arab Trust U15 LeagueIn a tough game for both teams Morgan came out on top and took the 3 points with a 5-3 win over Monifieth.

It wasn’t long after kick off before Monifieth had a free kick. The ball was sent right into the centre of the box but the Morgan defence cleared it. A minute later Monifieth were back on the offense, Blair Dickson made a great run through the defence and received the ball from Craig Garrigan. Dickson then sent the ball to the back post where Graeme Coupland was making a run. Coupland controlled the ball well and took a shot but the Morgan goal keeper made a fantastic save.

The Morgan goal keeper was forced to make another great save in the 6th minute. Callum Tippet was set up by Blair Dickson, he was through on goal but the Morgan goal keeper made another great save and stopped the chance.

The first goal of the game came in the 9th minute. Monifieth got a free kick from roughly 20 yards out, Graeme Coupland struck the ball towards the goal. The Morgan goalie nearly managed to save the powerful strike but he fumbled it into the net.

Morgan don’t let this early goal get to them, when they kicked off they looked optimistic and moved the ball up the field with some nice passing. A minute later Morgan player number 12 was played through into the box. Monifieth goal keeper Owen Milne comes out to tackle him, he managed to stop him but the ball deflected to a second Morgan player who took a shot at goal but Milne got back in time to save it.

Blair Dickson took a long shot towards the Morgan goal but the keeper saved. Soon after Morgan player number 11 made a great run down the wing but Chris Millar made a great challenge.

Monifieth had a corner in the 15th minute. The ball was sent towards the back post and Graeme Coupland met it with a header but it went just wide. Three minutes later Callum Tippet came close when he took a shot from just outside the box but it skimmed the cross bar.

Morgan started to move the ball about well, holding a lot of possession. Morgan player number 10 in the 24th minute managed to make it into the box and shoot but Owen Milne saved his attempt.
Monifieth then had a free kick, the ball played into the box. Blair Dickson went up to header the ball but the he clattered with the keeper.

Morgan started pressing the Monifieth defence more and were searching for chances to equalise. In the 29th minute the Morgan number 9 is in the box. Owen Milne saves his first shot, but it falls back into the box. 9 takes a second shot but Milne makes another great save. Morgan number 14 also had a chance in the 34th minute, he struck from outside the box but it narrowly went over the bar.

Morgan’s pressure finally paid off in the 37th minute. Morgan had a free kick from the left hand side of the field, the ball was played straight to Cameron McMahon in the box who leaped into the air and directed the ball with a great header into the net making it 1-1.

The half time whistle blew, and both teams walked off the pitch feeling they could take the lead in the second half.

He ran at the goalkeeper and tried to place it around him but the keeper made a great save. Monifieth then had a corner, the Morgan defence cleared the ball up field and number 10 tried to carry it further but he was tackled.

Kal Handy made it 2-1 for Morgan in the 46th minute. Handy took a shot from just inside the box, Chris Millar tried to block the shot but it deflected off him and went in the net.

It was long before Morgan increased their lead again. In the 49th minute Jay Hynes managed to get around the Monifieth defence and calmly put it past the keeper making it 3-1.

Morgan had another good chance, number 14 received the ball from the right side of the box, he then dummied it for 10 who took a shot at goal but Owen Milne made a great save.

Callum King made it 4-1 in the 56th minute. Morgan were counter attacking when a long ball through was played to King. He came one on one with the goalie and slipped it past him.

Morgan came close again through number 10, he dribbled past two players then let off a shot but it went just over the bar. A few minutes later Chris Millar had to do some great defending. Morgan number 12 was in the box, he managed to put the ball past the keeper, but Millar got there in time to clear it off the line.

Matthew Dean gave Monifieth some hope in the 67th minute by making it 4-2. He impressively dribbled past two Morgan players and then kept his composure to put it past the keeper.

But Kal Handy diminished any chance of Monifieth coming back to win in the 79th minute. The ball was played to the back post, Handy controlled it well and struck it into the net making it 5-2.

Monifieth managed to get another goal back though in the 85th minute. Craig Garrigan nicked the ball from the Morgan defence and ran into the box. The keeper came out to stop him but he slipped it under him and made it 5-3.

The final whistle blew and despite Monifieths effort Morgan walked away with a well-earned three points.

Cameron McMahon deserved man of the match as he worked hard in the midfield and scored the equaliser with a great header.
