Over nine hundred girls will be heading to the Dunfermline Academy of Sport, this Saturday, the 23rd of February, to play in the massive Bayside FC festival. Two hundred and twenty-one games will take place within the six hour tournament; the biggest of its kind in the girls game in Scotland.

Teams from the under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s and 15’s age sections will be competing at the festival, which is sure to be a fantastic occasion.

Also attending the festival will be SWF (Scottish Women’s Football). They will be using the opportunity to launch their new partnership with Positive Coaching Scotland, an association who strive to change the culture of Scottish youth sport by implementing a more positive, winning attitute at an earlier age.

The charity ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ will also be present, raising awareness to their cause. Show Racism the Red Card uses top professional footballers to educate people about racism in football as they look to eridcate it from our game.

YFS will be in attendance, and we caught up with festival organiser and Bayside Girls' coach, Martin Kennedy, who has been taken aback by the support and interest as he organises the event,

“Things have snowballed since we began organising the event. The response has been fantastic and the interest level has been really high. It's great we've got teams coming from all over. Further we're really pleased that the SWF, Positive Coaching Scotland and Show Racism the Red card are using the festival as a chance to push their positive message.”

The festival will be held at Dunfermline Academy of Sport beginning with the under 9's and 13's from 10am, while the under 15's and 11's begin at 1.15pm.

Teams participating in the festival will be: Bayside Girls, Broxburn, Celtic Tayside, Cumbernauld Colts, Dalry Rovers, Dunfermline, East Fife, Falkirk, Falkirk United, Glasgow City, Glasgow Girls, Glenrothes Strollers, Hearts, Hearts United, Hibernian, Hillfield Swifts, Jeanfield, Letham, Monifieth, Musselburgh Windsor, Port Glasgow, Raith Rovers, Real Fife, Scone Thistle, and Spartans.

Be sure to regularly check our website, Facebook and Twitter pages as we update with photo galleries, video content, interviews and reports over the weekend.
