On a muddy pitch in Perth both teams had been waiting on this tie to finally get played since the 18th of November with numerous call offs. As a result the match, a home tie for Alloa outfit Claremont, had been reversed to give Scone home advantage.

After a good start from Scone, and with some great defending from Claremont, the visitors had 2 or 3 shots blocked on the line and with some counter attacking football. It eventually payed off. The away side won a free kick 20 yards out and it was converted after a deflection off the wall left the keeper stranded.

However, Scone went onto take one of their chances after good link up play and a one two round the defence. Jamie Ayton played Kyle Ballingall through and he chipped the goalkeeper to pull his side level just before half time. Both teams went in at 1-1, in a tight match.

Half Time: Scone Thistle CFC 1-1 Claremont FC

Scone came out second half all guns blazing after a solo effort from Sam Grieve, taking on 2 or 3 defenders, he slotted the ball home to put them ahead minutes after the break.

The home side soon doubled this lead when Ayton and Ballingall were at it again when tough battling from Ayton to win the ball back, he then laid Ballingall off who finished with a lovely strike, 25 yards out from goal, with many bodies to avoid.

Scone seemed to take their foot off the gas and Claremont pegged them back after some good work with 25 minutes to go. Number 12 slotted the ball home, giving the keeper no chance.

Claremont continued to press without creating any clear chances, just many long shots that were ineffective. As the game opened and Claremont continued to get frustrated the game started to become more physical in the dying seconds.

The game eventually died out and Scone hung on to get into the last 16 of the Scottish cup and travel to Colony Park next Saturday. Scone are still the only Perth team left and deserved their victory today.
