This tie has been called off on numerous occasions and the home team took the opportunity to get it on as the junior park was available and with the lay off and lack of training it looked a interesting game on paper.

On a very windy park Claremont won the toss and took the wind advantage, but the Glens started the best with some nice flowing football and were first the 50/50 balls, it paid dividends on 7 mins when the Glens defence kept the ball then played it up to Tyler Campbell on the wide right who played a 40 yard diagonal ball to Jordan Graham who cutely cut inside 2 defenders and smashed the ball into the top corner, the perfect start for the Glens.

The Glens continued to dominate even into the wind and Claremont insisted on playing back to front which was easy pickings for the Glens defence.

Half Time: Glenafton Athletic 1-0 Claremont AFC

The second half was a replica of the first with Glens playing most of the game in Claremont’s half.

Some of the Glens players were getting frustrated with some of the referees decisions and a couple of bookings were given out and could ill afford to lose any players late on as Claremont’s still insisted on the ball over the top in hope of a defensive error and were now slowly creeping into the game.

With about 10 minutes to go Tyler Campbell was late in a tackle and the referee pulled the card straight away and Campbell was given an early shower for 2 yellows.

Claremont pressed for the equalizer and were bare at the back and the Glens should have finished them off late on but some poor decision making squandered the chances,

There was a late scare when the Glens couldn’t clear their lines but they held on for a massive win and will go into the quarter finals now with confidence.

Overall view of the game was Glenafton defended very well and in midfield they have flair and match winners, upfront they work tirelessly, Claremont never showed anything to trouble the Glens and cannot have and qualms with the result, so well done to the manager and the boys, I am sure if they work on some fitness issues and shaping they will be hard to beat and will now not fear anyone stopping them getting to Airdrie for the final.
