The final match of the SFA Youth Cup's second round took place on Sunday at East Fife's Bayview Stadium in Methil. With the other ties being played the previous week, East Fife and visitors Motherwell knew victory would lead to a third round visit to Ayr United.

East Fife were hoping to make home advantage count and pull off a shock against their SPL opponents. However, it was the Steelmen who enjoyed the better of both possession and attempts at goal in the first half. Craig Moore hit the crossbar, Morgyn Neill headed narrowly over and Stuart Carswell drove the ball wide as Well pushed for an opener.

At the other end Mark Shaw's effort, which was off target, was the closest East Fife came to breaking through.

Half Time: East Fife 0-0 Motherwell FC

After being on the back foot for most of the first half, East Fife started the second period with a spring in their step. They were soon rewarded after Ryan McAllister was fouled inside the penalty area, giving Shaw the opportunity to open the scoring from the spot. The East Fife man made no mistake, sending Ross Stewart the wrong way to put his side in front.

Motherwell pressed for an equaliser but East Fife defended well, limiting the SPL outfit to half chances. The attempts which did find their way on target were comfortably dealt with by home goalkeeper Dylan Roonie.

The final whistle blew and East Fife's players and coaching staff were jubilant. It is they who will make the trip to South Ayrshire, guaranteeing a last 16 berth for one further SFL team.
