Dundee vs Ross CountyDundee faced Ross County under 14s this afternoon on the opening day of the Denis Law Tournament. The goal-hungry Dees made a statement of intent imposing a spectacular 9-0 hammering on their opponents.

The deadlock was broken as early as the second minute, when Paul Callaghan rose above the County defence to power home a header from a corner. Ross County looked to respond immediately through Andrew MacKay, but with the keeper beaten, his long-range effort flashed just the wrong side of the post.

Some great link-up play down the right wing set up County’s Calum Greenlees in the 6th minute, but the keeper was quick off his line to make an important save. Dundee doubled their advantage in the 9th minute when Kyle Clark raced clear down the left, burst into the box, and touched the ball past the onrushing keeper, into the net.

The 17th minute brought goal number three. Scott Milne finished off a fine passing move with an emphatic finish from close-range, high past the helpless Danny McCarthy in goals. Dundee were carving County open at will, and two minutes later it took a last-ditch tackle to prevent Max Avolio going clean through.

Avolio beat the offside trap in the 29th minute, and lobbed the keeper expertly, only to see his attempt bounce agonisingly wide. Three minutes later Avolio timed yet another run to perfection, rounded the keeper, but again just couldn’t finish it off, this time hitting wide from an angle.

Dundee made it 4-0 with a free kick in the 33rd minute. Ross Cunningham’s 30-yard curler flew over the head of the County keeper and nestled in the corner of the net. Four minutes later County went close with a free kick of their own, a screamer from Greenlees rattling the crossbar from miles out.

Dundee went straight up to the other end though, and added a fifth. McCarthy saved well from the initial shot, but Scott Milne reacted quickest to pounce on the rebound and capitalise on the keeper being out of position, tapping the ball into the unguarded net.

Number six came on the stroke of half time via another free kick. It was Cunningham again with almost a carbon copy of his first, just from a slightly wider angle.

Half Time: Dundee Under 14s 6-0 Ross County Under 14s

Dundee vs Ross CountyIt didn’t take long before Dundee opened the second half scoring through substitute Matthew Davidson, who rounded the keeper, and took his time before rolling into the empty net in the 45th minute.

Just one minute later it was eight, as Dundee players were queuing up to get in amongst the goals. After two blocked shots, the ball fell to Davidson whose blast down the middle was too powerful for the keeper to keep out.

John Black was unfortunate not to get his name on the scoresheet on the hour-mark. The substitute did everything right, heading down, but the ball bounced back up and hit the bar. Kyle Clark did round off the scoring though in the 69th minute with Dundee’s ninth, a good finish from wide on the right

All in all, as stunning display from Dundee under 14s, who showed a great deal of class and maturity, and simply didn't let Ross County get started.
