Rosebank Under 19's
Competition: AFYFC U19s League Cup Group "A"
Venue: Hawkcraig Park
Date: 11/12/2011
Aberdour entertained Rosebank at Hawkcraig Park their final group "A" tie.
The first half got underway with Aberdour dominating the early possession with efforts from Callum Bringhurst, Conor Hay and Lewis Hamill  failing to find the back of the net.
It took until the 15th minute for Rosebank to venture upfield after long ball clearance out of defence the Rosebank forward got his shot away glancing off the top corner of the upright this must have concentrated the minds of the Aberdour Team as they worked the ball back up the right side with excellent work from Grant Lockley and Sean Johnstone feeding the ball through to Adam Kerr getting his shot away, only to see it rebound out to Conor Hay who shot home for the first goal of the game 1-0 .
Aberdour continued to control the game with Rosebank pinned back in their own half for large periods due to the excellent passing and moving of the Aberdour midfield and forwards. Callum Bringhurst was to see his shot from the edge of the box fly just over the bar in the 22nd minute.
Rosebank came close to the equaliser in the 28th minute with Stuart Patterson getting down to make an excellent save to his right hand side.
Aberdour took advantage of the vast amount of possession they were enjoying in the 36th minute with Conor Hay picking up the ball on the edge of the box finishing from close range under pressure from the Rosebank defence 2-0. Aberdour scored again a minute later when Sean Johnstone again put a good cross in from the right for an excellent finish from Adam Kerr 3-0.
It was time for the midfield to get in on the act when in the 42nd minute Stuart Blake unleashed a thunder bolt from thirty five yards which gave the Rosebank goal keeper no chance 4-0. Conor Hay got his hat trick, Mark James put in a good cross from the right for the eager Conor Hay to finish clinically from the six yard box 5-0.
Half Time: Aberdour Under 19's 5 - 0 Rosebank Under 19's
The second half got underway in much the same fashion as the first with Conor Hay shooting just over the bar in the 47th minute.
Rosebank had an effort ruled offside in the 50th minute this was the prelude to Aberdour putting the game out of reach of the plucky Rosebank side with a Callum Bringhurst free kick into the area and Big Jon Davidson scrambling the ball home 6-0. The seventh goal came from another Sean Johnstone cross with a scramble in the box and the unfortunate Rosebank defender getting the last touch for an own goal 7-0.
Aberdour had several more chances and in the 75th minute when Sean Johnstone crossed the ball over for Dean Anderson to power a header off the bar only to be followed in by Lewis Hamill 8-0.
Rosebank were unfortunate when their Goalkeeper was injured and having used all their subs an outfield player went in and they played on with ten players. Rosebank did not give in though and were rewarded in the 80th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a trip just inside the box, up came the stand in Goalkeeper to take it and put it away 8-1.
The Goalkeeper was instrumental in the next goal when a huge upfield kick was latched onto by the Rosebank forward who slipped the ball past Stuart Patterson 8-2. The Drama was not finished when in the 88th minute of the game the Goalkeeper was sent off, reducing Rosebank to 9 men.
The game was not over with Rosebank spurred on by the apparent injustice of the sending off, scoring again a few minutes later.
Aberdour were undoubtedly deserved winners on the day but it was Rosebank’s fighting spirit which kept them going until the end of the match.
