Craigie United began the game playing in their red and white striped kit which they later changed to black as they clashed with the home team’s red and blue kit.

Stewarton were able to forge the first chance of the game.  It came after a good run down the left wing by Lachlan Dearie who then crossed the ball to the edge of the area where John Foster took a left foot volley which was well saved by James Sinclair in Craigie’s goal.

Craigie responded with a good chance of their own.  Euan Cormican got into the area where he squared the ball to Brodie O’Neil who was on the penalty spot.  O’Neil poked the ball towards goal but his shot went just wide.

The game continued to be very open throughout the first half with one team making a chance and then the other creating their own opportunity.

Some good play on Stewarton’s left hand side saw them create another good chance to take the lead.  John Foster played the ball to Daniel Law who was just inside the area.  Law laid the ball back to Ryan Somerville who hit his shot right at the goalie who held the ball well.

Stewarton were able to keep up their pressure for a short time.  The best opportunity they had during this period was from a free kick they won around 20 yards out from goal.  Sam Sheach shot straight from the kick but the keeper made another good save to keep the scores equal.

Again, Craigie were able to create a chance of their own.  Brodie O’Neil was able to play Toni Murphy through on the edge of the box where the striker tried to place his shot around the goalie but Ian Harkness made a good save.

As half time neared, Stewarton looked to take the lead.  Sam Sheach played a lovely ball over the defence to John Foster who took his shot early but it went just wide.

With the last attack of the half Craigie were able to take the lead.  Toni Murphy was able to get the ball to Connor Gracie just inside the area.  Gracie got past a defender and then finished well to give Craigie the lead as the half time whistle blew.

At half time, the game has been very even and a draw would probably have been fair.  Stewarton will be disappointed with going in a goal down.  They have had plenty of chances and will be annoyed at themselves for not taking any of them.  Craigie, though, will be happy with their lead as the chances they have created were not as good as Stewarton’s but they were able to convert one of them.

Half Time: Stewarton Annick Under 14s 0 – 1 Craigie United Under 14s

Stewarton kicked off the second half and immediately looked to take control of the game.  They were able to dominate possession throughout the half but did not create many opportunities on goal.

Craigie, with one of their short periods of possession were able to create 2 good chances which could have doubled their advantage.  Firstly, Connor Gracie played in Toni Murphy who took an early shot which was well held by Ian Harkness.

Murphy had a second chance soon after.  Sean Scobie went on a long run down the left wing and was able to square the ball to Murphy.  The striker turned on the ball but put his shot narrowly wide.

Stewarton continued to have most of the possession were unable to create much.  The best chance of the half form the home team came from a free kick around 30 yards out.  Lachlan Dearie took the set piece but had his shot well saved from the keeper.

At full time, Stewarton will be disappointed with the loss.  They were unlucky in the first half not to have scored and in the second, they should have created more chances than they did.  Craigie will be delighted with the victory as it showed they have a strong defence as well as an attack that will finish the chances they make.
