Aberdour earned three points by firing six goals past St Johns 93s in this AFYFC Division 1 match.

The first goal arrived after 19 minutes in simple fashion. Aberdour won a corner and when the cross came in from Sean Johnstone, Mark James was allowed a free header to give his side the lead.

St Johns would have been looking to tighten up at the back but on 27 minutes the hosts won another corner and this time Steven Stewart was allowed a free header to make it 2-0 for his side.

It looked like St Johns had got themselves back into it on 31 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. James Evans raced onto a long ball over the top and had only the goalkeeper to beat. He tried to round Andrew Harmon in goal but was brought down by the keeper. Evans himself stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way and make it 2-1 and seemingly it was game on.

However, those hopes were dealt a blow only two minutes later when Aberdour won a penalty of their own after a handball by a St Johns defender. Craig Mitchell took the penalty and made no mistake sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Aberdour got themselves a fourth goal before the break. Craig Mitchell did well down the left side and crossed the ball towards Adam Kerr who stretched out his leg to poke the ball into the net and had his side in cruise control by halftime.

The second half was to see less action than the first and things threatened to boil over on 74 minutes when there was a tussle between Aberdour’s Dean Anderson and St Johns Ryan Scott which ended up with a yellow card for either player.

On 83 minutes the game saw its best goal and Aberdour’s fifth when sub Conor Hay ran down the left side. He managed to beat his man, cut inside and he sent a low shot into the far corner.

St Johns were now looking for the final whistle but Aberdour weren’t finished yet and scored a sixth goal just before full time. Stephen Stark sent a long ball over the top and Aaron Lindsey collected the ball before shooting past the goalkeeper in the last action of the match.
